The iPad is Here, Will You Get One?

Whether you are interested in one or not, at least you can be thankful the rumors are done and that the much speculated iPad is announced.

For the most part, it really seems like a big iPhone or iPod Touch.  They also introduced the iBook Store which seems to obviously be going directly after the Kindle and the Amazon book store.   Base price is $499 with options like 3G connectivity and more storage space that can bring it over $800.

I’m still looking over the details, but it certainly is an interesting device, but certainly not game changing.  It won’t be out for a few months so I guess we have time to think about.

It's definitely cheaper than I thought it would be. Although, I don't think 16 gigs will be enough storage space. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty cool product. It looks like apple is attempting to get rid of paper media.....

Hell no.

It doesn't have an x86 chip in it so not really useful to me as a general purpose computer, since it won't run my apps. As an ebook reader it falls flat with a short battery life (most ebook readers ahve weeks of battery, not hours), not usable in the sun, and quite expensive for the cellular model.

I just can't see anything I'd use it for.

No, its a Mac product.

No. And a question. Anyone know if apple has finished getting the rights to the name "iPad"? IIRC a different company already owned the name. Then apple announced the ipad and started sueing to the company to try and steal the name.

That company was a shell/front company for Apple.

I'm not interested in most of it's features...but that little, folding MS Courier might really be a wonderful tool for me if it'll check email too. This iPad lacks a OneNote type app...from what I can see, and that's a really wonderful app.

nope, i won't be getting one. Apple make a great product, i just don't like the elitist attitude of the mac fanclub. Besides it's just another e-book reader as far as i am concerned. Just like apple to copy other products.

Anyway. "Ipad"? sounds like a sanitary product to me.

so, finally all this hype is over. or has just started? in any case, on a certain level is does look tempting, but to be honest I would not know what to do with it. I'm not a smartphone person, I don't want or need to be on the internet all the time. so, no, I won't get one.

elsewhere I read about a comparison to the kindle. now, a slightly larger kindle with touch screen and that good display ... that would interesting. but a standard lcd display is just too tiring to look at all the time.

seriously not worth the price their asking for.

Not a chance I'll get this.  Its Apple for one, and I don't like their way of doing things, but also I don't see the need.

No, but then my phone has no camera nor a color display. I don't go for gadgets and I'm happy to read books on my laptop if needed (currently reading Dune Messaih) so I'm clearly not their target market.

Does anyone here buy gadgets but are just not opting to jump on the bandwagon and embrace all that the mighty Apple releases?

Nope as always it way over priced for the version with the best features and it has the serious mac limitations to it.

That pretty-well covers it...;)

The only 'Apple' product I have is a 2c.....I paid a fair price for it and its printer, extra drive, etc.....$5.

I don't want to offend anyone, but it seems to me that the anti-apple crowd are a lot more fervent and rabid than most "apple fanboys"….

that is the stupidest name for a product ever.

No way i am ever buying this.

Nope. My iPod touch and my Macbook are all the mobile devices I need. With my custom-built gaming PC, that fills out my computing needs. A tablet doesn't fit in there anywhere.

I would have liked a new Macbook Pro 13" to have bee released instead. Would have been a nice upgrade, as my current Macbook is getting old, and also isn't that powerful for Windows games. Waiting for i5 processors, so SoaSE will run well.

Yes.

I would have ordered one today if they were available.

Small storage, non-x86 CPU, no multitasking.. basically a scaled-up iPod. So no.

I think folks are making a yes or not call on whether the iPad fills a need or requirement for them.  Not really an anti-apple or fanboy thing as far as I can tell. :sun:
