W7 Driver for LAN-EXPRESS

W7 Driver for LAN-EXPRESS

My step-son got a new PC for Christmas and after building his desk and all we finally got aorund to hooking everything up. However, the wireless tower won't work on his PC. The disk I have is for 32 bit drivers and his new PC is 64 bit.

I am looking for drivers for a LAN-EXPRESS IEEE 80211b WLAN USB ADAPTER

I have looked all over and and most of the available downloads are from pay sites or 'questionable' sites that want you to sign up and then want all kinds of info.

If anyone could help with this, I would appreciate it.

Still showing as Unknown Device.

Running in this mode it did not leave an icon on the desktop but the missing .dll issue went away.

Click update driver. Click Browse for driver. Click let me pick.

Did this. No option to check or uncheck everything

Went to 'Network Adapters' and there is a huge list of manufacturers. There is a heading for Microsoft and one for Microsoft Corporation. But I cannot find anything titled WLAN USB. The closest to that is WAN with several choices for drivers but none that say WAN USB.

Under Microsoft

Microsoft 6to4 adapter

USB RNDIS ADAPTER

USB RNDIS6 ADAPTER

WAN MINIPORT (IKEV2, IP, IPV6, L2TP, NETBEUI DIALOUT, NETWORK MONITOR, PPPOE, PPPTP, SSSTP)

Under  WLAN is only one driver - WLAN USB Wireless LAN Stick

There are several drivers for 802.11 a/b/g/n under different manufacturers but I don't know who made this thing. Under Realtek there is one for 802.11b which I tried but it removed 'unknown device' and replaced it with what I guess should be there for the Realtek driver and said there was no device.

Ok...let's review....

The problem is not Win7 and it is not 64 bit. The problem is a 7 year old piece of hardware that is 3 bandwidth cycles behind the times.

Life is too short. Go and get a cheap (cheap being relative) USB wireless adapter that is rated N and is backward compatible to G. That matches your present router and covers you if/when you decide to completely upgrade everything to N.

Thanks. I had a feeling I would have to get a new one. The router and the towers all came through Timewarner. I might call them and tell them to upgrade it all, it's just they are such a bunch of bozos. They trashed a laptop a few years ago tring to install a wireless card on it and they fried the registry. I hate when they come out to the house to monkey with anything involving the computers.

I'll follow what you said as far as what to buy and let you know how it works out.

As a paying customer for obviously a long period of time, you as a customer have a right to the latest equipment that is available, comcast contacted me and told me i needed to upgrade my modem i am glad i did, i went to the comcast store (office) picked it up, set it up made a call and in less than an hour i was up and running a lot faster, that was about a year ago, since i have gotten kinda crazy being retired and all, and hardwired my whole house, 8 port router with an 8 port cisco swithch, yeah i went overboard but it kept me outta trouble, also where i could run the wires in the wall i purchased plastic channel made just for it, it sticks right on the baseboard (trim) of the room, anyways, i also tend to ramble this early in the morning after a few cups of my highly caffeinated coffee, also i have an HP DV7 entertainment laptop, i am going to look for those drivers for you as i am running 7 now on it, you did say it was ah HP right

Just got off the phone with TW and thery are coming out tomorrow with the lastest Netgear adapters. I'm gonna insist they update the router as well.

I spent an hour on the phone talked to 6 people and was told to bring my shit downtown to the office and they will see if they have what I need in stock.

After explaining that they really do not understand my frustration, I wanted to know why I had to make a trip downtown on a maybe. I asked why I was paying all this money and they couldn't check and see if they had it and email me or call me.

I had to explain again that they still did not understand my frustration and was finally connected to someone in my home office (which they said was impossible to do) to get it worked out.

I hear AT&T has come into our area and have been hearing a LOT of good things about their cable and internet service...among them is that it's hell of a lot better and cheaper. Time to make a change.

It's okay. TW is replacing the adapters.

The they are going to replace the router.

Then I am going to demand a reduction in billing because we couldn't connect since Christmas.

I am so sick of this shit. Sooner or later I am gonna be on the 11 oclock news. They will of course exagerate the number of hostages and my time in therapy..but my real friends will stick up for me. You won't let them lable me a psycho. Right?

Right?

Vote with your feet....good for you!

Sigh. I'm tired Doc. All kinds of issues since the kidney stones. The nerve blocks  have wore off again...earlier than ever before. I'm a wreck and this crap didn't help my overall outlook. I really need something to go right soon. Maybe I'll buy a lotto ticket and see if I can get lucky.

Thanks for your help on this Gary! How many cups of coffee or beers do I owe you now?

Comcast here is kind of kissing all the customers butts, because as i speak Verizon is installing FIOS and have been for about 6 months now, even though i live in a comcast test area just south of boston, we tend to get all the new things first

Po...if you bitch load enough they will upgrade you to the Turbo connection for free if you don't already have it.

You and I have the same Time Warner supplier in Columbia...they upgraded me when I complained that they couldn't supply my house with the bandwidth that they advertise for my area. Now I'm at 15kbps for the price of 5kbps.

Cool. I will have to work on that.

So...Time Warner gets here at 8 am. He says 'I hear you have internet trouble."

I look at him and once again explain everything. I tell him he is supposed to install two new adapters and a new router.

He then tells me he only has one adapter and will have to go 'meet another tech somewhere to get the other stuff' and that he wasn't told all of this. The ticket he got just says 'internet trouble'.

It's now 9:13 and he isn't back yet.

And I think my anti-psychotics are wearing off.

The voices can't be far behind.

What is the bandwith for this area and how do I check it? I thought I heard it should be 11kbps, not sure.

11:16am - I now have the new router and 2 new adapters.

The tech couldn't get WIndows 7 to let the wireless network through so I had to show him. That's funny.

I ran a test on my internet speed with Time Warners/Roadrunner test and then one on Speedtest.net.

As far as what I am supposed to have...I don't know. This is all the info I could find on what I should have.

3. How fast is Time Warner Cable?
Time Warner Cable offers 5 Mbps Download and up to 512 Kbps upload.

and

Road Runner offers five tiers of service: Road Runner Lite, Road Runner Basic, Road Runner Standard with Power Boost, Road Runner Turbo with Power Boost, and Road Runner Extreme with Power Boost. Road Runner data rates vary by level of service and area. The averages for these services are:
* Lite - 768 Kbps/128 Kbps *
Basic - 1.5 Mbps/384 Kbps *
Standard with Power Boost - 7 Mbps/512 Kbps (bursts: 10 Mbps/512 Kbps)
* Turbo with Power Boost - 15 Mbps/756 Kbps (bursts: 25 Mbps/1 Mbps)
* Extreme - 30 Mbps/5 Mbps (bursts: 50 Mbps/5 Mbps)

These are the speedtest results.

I don't know how to tell if the speed is where it should be.

Thanks again for all the help with this. :)

Looks like you have the standard plan.

The best they could do for me was a little under 5 so they ended up giving me Turbo with power boost to get my speed up to normal. I end up averaging 15kbps on 3 tests via the Time Warner speed test. The best I can do for up is 490.

Funny, in Summerville they don't offer the Extreme.

Cool. As long as I am getting what I payed for.

Just got done hooking up the boys PC and installing Firefox and antivirus and getting rid of bloatware.

I'm insanely jealous.

He has WIndows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

A new 26" HDTV I have hooked it up to.

A new PS3 hooked up to the HDTV and the PC

I built the desk myslef. Instead of some bulky thing that takes up what little room he has, I put in a 6'ft counter, shelves. He has all his hardware on the shelves leaving the desk wide open. His room looks so much bigger and really kinda crisp and clean now. I'm gonna have to get a pic to post after I finish it this weekend.

His PC is so freakin fast as well.

I told him all he needs now is a nice leather swivel chair with a matching footrest and he's golden.

Yrag, you still lurking around?

I got the dang thing running and wireless connected. Then I went and intsalled WOW.

It keeps crashing.

I looked around and a lot of folks have the same issue with 7 and 64 bit. There's also a lot of bad advice.

Two things I caught that made sense 'to me' were this..

WOW and the two expansion packs and all patches need to all go into the same folder c:\\ users\public\games - however, the last pack (lich King) does not give me that option, though it appears to go there. One of the patches goes into the program folder.

The other was trouble shooting the compatability. It suggested XP w/service pack 3. It ran for about an hour on this when it crashed. I tried Vista SP1 and it crashed in 5 minutes.

Any ideas? The boy is going through WOW withdraw and I feel terrible. I can usually figure things out but this has me stumped.
