Why is no other country giving as much as the U.S? I'm sure a lot of those countries could afford it (afford to give way more than they did at least). If the infrastructer does get rebuilt is it going to get rebuilt properly? I hope this doesn't turn into the stimulus fiasco or lines the pockets of the fat cats (example Arafat).
The US do give the most, that is true.
But I don't have to hide. Although neither Israel nor the EU give as much as the US, per capita or in total, we are certainly closer to the US level than to everybody else's.
For the PA situation, most of the population didn't get the money. Well, before 1993 (1995 is when it offically started) that is. Before that groups could give organziation directly the money then in 1993/1995 (that's when Clinton brought in 'peace') groups had to give money to the government which would 'give' it to the organziation. This allowed a small group of people to pocket the ALOT of the money.
That's the people I meant. I don't expect the average middle-class Arab in the territories to give anything and I don't hold it against him if he doesn't. But the PA have all that money. They could give or at least refrain from taking while somebody else is a victim of a greater (and real) catastrophe not caused by a wish to wage war on your neighbour.
Obviously, I can't say with certainty, but if the majority of the money was given to the people I don't think the PA would be as bad off as it is. I can't say if terrorism would be triving or not.
If the majority of the people was given to the people, there would be no war.
The individual clan leaders (who would be in charge then) have no interest in fighting anyone and just want their local rule preserved.
Leauki, most of the population practices witch craft/ voodoo in Haiti, I'm not sure if that can be classified as 'christian'. I'm guessing most will claim RC but practice voodoo or Santeria which the RC and Christians seperates themselves from.
They are officially Christians. In fact the Catholic Church was state religion as recently as the 80s.
Maybe they will stop practicing Voodoo now. Belief in Christianity does not stop earthquakes but it does allow them to understand why so many Christian (or majority-Christian or Christianity-influenced) countries were so eager and willing to help them.
None of my points affect your points though. For the record Leauki, I agree with you. You don't see the Red Cresent helping now do you? No.... Because according to the Koran, Muslims are to show mercy only to other Muslims.
And Jews are supposed primarily to care about the Jewish people. But there is always time to help others as well.
I will say that Christians out give all other groups.
Yes, absolutely.
While I think that Jews probably give more to charity per capita than even Christians, the majority of those charities are specifically Jewish charities.
I hope that all of this money makes it to the Haitian people but some how I doubt that it will make it to them. Probably somewhere of 25% or less will make it to them.
I am actually really optimistic about this. The Haitian government is not functioning and the foreigners are basically in control of the country (in as much as it is under control). The Haitians are also, I am sure, clever enough to accept foreign quasi-rule for a while (since they think their own government was useless anyway).
And I am convinced that what the US and Europeans and others do in Haiti will be designed to help the people. The blindness affecting the west in the Middle-East does not apply in the US' backyard.
