XP is the bastard child of an abacus, heiroglyphics and a Fisher Price 'early learning' toy.  Hence we have... er, HAD an OS that could count, read, decipher and looks like the toy factory in Pinnochio.  Even with WB, XP still looked like shit at times... the start menu was always effed up... MS divvied it up all wrong IMO (always hated the top panel), and cosmetics struggled to alter the fact.

Never liked XP... so when Vista came along I though/said: "Where have you been all my life?"  Shocked the shit out of me when I heard: "Wasn't around for the first 55 years of it." coming out my speakers.... which was pretty scary in 5.1 surround.

:-"

[think laneways and night carts]..

And when I do, I think Monty Python's 'Meaning of Life"..."Bring out your dead... bring out your dead" ;)

XD You all just crack me up! I can't wait for the next new OS to come out. Die Vista...Die!  :banhammer: Die 7...Die! :banhammer:   XD

It's regrettable, but a lot of us are stuck with XP for a while to come, even if Windows 7 is a bargain, so I hope you skinners will keep us in mind. If you're going to drop an OS to skin, it should probably be Vista.

Just to give a bit of perspective (from a skinners POV)

A Vista skin and a Win7 skin are nearly identical. The main differences are the extra sections on Win 7. In man hours, an Xp substyle can take up to 2 days to do (from a finished vista skin), Where a Win7 substyle will take a couple of hours!

I always make my XP skins first, then make my (now) Windows 7 next.  Yes, Windows 7 and Vista gui's are nearly identical.  Making either of those skins (7 or Vista)...takes a lot longer to do than just the XP skin...even with importing parts of the XP skin that will work in 7/Vista.  I can put together an XP skin in about 3 weeks, sometimes a little less time, but putting together a 7/Vista skin takes about 3-4 weeks, even with importing elements from XP.  I always have to make a totally new start panel, new taskbar, new buttons, new logoffs in addition to all the extra stuff that goes into 7/vista.

As long as I still have my current laptop, I will continue to skin XP....my laptop will not work with Vista or 7.  XP is still a good OS, IMO...it is stable and runs fast.  So, personally, I hope the laptop doesn't die on me anytime soon.

Yeah i said goodbye to XP years ago.....

So for me it's time to say goodbye to Vista.... :digichet:

AND A BIG HELLO TO 7.......   my sony seems so so FAST now with 7 8O

.plus there are so many "white" parts in Win7/Vista that just look like @ss because they aren't skinnable, that aren't in XP, sometimes I think the XP skins looked better.

amen sista!

I still use XP 99% of the time. :inlove: However,I dont hate 7 the way I do Vista.

All 3 of my computers are now running 7. The two PC's are running 7 Ultimate, and the laptop has 7Home premium. So Xp and Vista are both dead to me now. I'm not putting XP down, it was a good OS (unlike Vista), but as I skin for myself, there is no point in making skins for those two. Windows 7 is VERY good, and it runs beautifully on the new system I just built a few weeks ago.

So, XP can die as far as I'm concerned. B[]

System Requirements for 7

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

  • Ok, so I have a Dell  Optiplex SX260 that I am going to use as a media center PC.

    Ram - 1 GB... good

    Processor - 2.4 GHz... good

Oh.. forgot to mention.. the Dell has no DVD drive. Have not figured out how to install 7 on it...yet...

Hard Disk - 20GB... good... except.. I dun have anymore HD space to store my ISO files. Gotta use a USB External Drive.

XP Still has some uses, but I do agree, this is all I've got XP on. Love it but alas, I must move on as 7 is sooooo much better at the functions of a multimedia pc. :D

I understand you can install 7 from a USB.  Google it for the particulars.

Because of finances I still have Windows XP. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Live XP Live. It works for me. If the skinners choose not to skin XP, I have plenty of skins that I have collected over the years that I love and use. Just because many can afford to upgrade their PC's with new hardware and a new operating system. please don't think XP users are second class. We get enough of that in real life.

THANKS for that bit of info.

I've found a tool to do just that at THIS PLACE.

Here is a different thought on the thread title, the people using XP will have to die for XP to die.  :-"

Yeah. I'm not ready to do this yet. So I'll repeat Live XP, Live!

die XP die eh?..... hmmm me thinks someone wants to become an elitist.... by a mac and do it properly.

just because you can afford to pay ridiculous prices to upgrade to the new OS, not everyone can so saying something like that makes those who still use XP feel like second class users. While your at it, wear pierre cardin socks and jocks and have your caviar. Hopefully (and no offence intended) you don't become a master because then you will have to skin for all 3 of the OS's and then we would never hear the end of the pissing and moaning. One thing to say..... grow up :P

I paid $49.00 prepaid to Microsoft for Windows 7 Home Premium.   FYI

Well, it so happens that 20f3 is a Master.

Money issues not withstanding, we all choose the socks and undies we wear because we can, the same with computers and OS.

I don't think I have ever seen here that a Master has to skin for all OS, seems they should be able to choose.  Down side to that would be that a smaller amount of members of the community will be able to run them without some parts of say the WindoBlind not looking correct.

Oh, and I still have an XP system running fine, and I have a second computer running Win 7, because I can, for no other reason than that. :sun:

/me wonders if he should piss first, or moan........

    it's a dilemma XD

If your running anything else .,,than that's fine ,,But, what you need to know is a lot of people went back to XP just like myself because off the problems i had...Now as far as die...NO yes support they say ends for XP in 2014. But, they'er are alot of people still holding out on WINDOWS 7./.

And I might add that that eliteist SOB hasn't charged anyone for a blind even though he is a master!!    ;)
