Comprehensive Fantasy Book List

Currently there are several old threads that list a variety of books(mostly sci-fi with some fantasy added).  I want to stay exclusive within the fantasy genre for this thread as a way of giving people a goto place for reading suggestions.  I figure the sci-fi thread should be a seperate thread.  Please list Author of book(s) then title.  Realize that some of these suggestions will be out of print books.  Out of print books still circulate in used bookstores, online, etc. and sometimes they get new distribution channels, ie another publisher.

I'm surprised the Wheel of Time series by the late Robert Jordan and now taken up by Brandon Sanderson has not been mentioned.

I'll fix the problem now:

Robert Jordan:

The Eye of the World
The Great Hunt
The Dragon Reborn
The Shadow Rising
The Fires of Heaven
Lord of Chaos
A Crown of Swords
The Path of Daggers
Winter's Heart
Crossroads of Twilight
Knife of Dreams

Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson:

The Gathering Storm

I've added to the list.  And here are a few fantasy books mixed with some history;  or is it the otherway around..?!

Author                                                                                  Title

Homer                                                                                  The Illiad

                                                                                           The Odyssey

A.T. Hatto(Translation and critique)Penguin Books 1964             The Nibelungenlied(I think this is where we owe our gratitude for dwarves in fantasy literature and the source for J.R.R.Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings" dwarves, and the "Rings"

Edith Hamilton(Translator)Penguin Books                                  Mythology:Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes

I hope this can inspire those people who didn't or don't consider fantasy literature and themes.  For those who love fantasy but have never considered a historical perspective to it context, this is a must read list(IMHO).  Hope all you Elemental: War of Magic developer's and modder's can get some ideas from these books.  These four book probably cemented my love for fantasy literature along with J.R.R.Tolkien's works and C.S.Lewis' stuff.

and lastly,

Sir Thomas Malory                                                                  Le Morte d'Arthur( "the death of Arthur" or "The hoole booke of kyng Arthur & of is noble knyghtes of the rounde table")
