I guess stuff like "no negro dialect" is now acceptable political commentary. Thats what Democrats are saying on message boards. 

...and that's why you're failing to see the forest through the trees. Reid's words imply that "light skinned blacks" are somehow OK, or acceptable (what's wrong with "dark skinned" people?). He also makes the assumption that Obama will be liked because he doesn't "sound" black (unless he wants to, of course). Reid let his true feelings on race show though and the sheep are giving him a pass. I guess a little of that Democrat old time plantation owner mentality is still alive and well in the party.

I am curious though Nitro and Daiwa - setting aside your fixation at what democrats do, do wrong, etc. - what if a republican said the same thing. Would you have the same outrage? I can't help but feel like you wouldn't. Though, if the day comes and you are equally outraged - then call me out on it and I'll apologize.

Secondly, he said what he felt...what he believed.....is that now wrong? Why do you (and others) try to justify what some people say, yet when its a democarat - it's wrong? Why not hold them to the same standards? Again, as I stated above, if you can prove me wrong - if you can show me that you do hold republicans to the same standards you do democrats - I will apologize. You have my word.

Well seing as I hear this from the UK most respected radio news show.   I'm not sure how the media are ignoring it when the BBC, which is often maligained as having a left wing bias, runs it before the issue is in the other media.

AJ, you are once again side-stepping the issue that is in the title.  Yes, we all know Reid is an idiot.  Is he really a racist?  I don't know.

What I do know is there is a huge double-standard in the media and with democrats.

If this was a republican it would be front page headlines with everyone wanting him to resign.  

Typical of AJ to ignore the issue which is a racist statement and instead turn this into a "Reid is stupid but he has the right to be stupid". AJ, no one is saying he does or does not have the right to believe and say what he wants, but just like you can't screem fire in a theater when there's no fire, Reid has to except responsibility for his comments.

For once in your life AJ could you at least admit this was racist and that the story is legit as oppose to excusing the issue? Gosh, why is it so hard for you to admit that something is wrong instead of looking for excuses?  Incredible.

A few places in Europe (not all) are coming to realize where this US administration is dragging them along for the ride and that place isn't pretty (or hope and change for that matter). On this side, too many of the media outlets placed all their bets on this one horse, in which the Democrat party is fused to. IMO, they must feel it is better to go down with the ship than admit that they bought into the hype, for cheap, all while talking a large portion of Americans into doing the same.

What Lott did/said was a bad choice of words - a foot in mouth comment if you will - given how volatile politics is, but I don't agree with his resignation. May not agree with him, his tactics, etc. - but he said what he felt, he should've stood by it.

My comment wasn't "what if a republican did it" as in they did or didn't ever do it. (Come on, it's politics, none of them are clean) My point was to ask you simply:

Would you hold the republicans just as accountable as you hold the democrats? Does your sense of accountability fall on principle or party line?

How in the heck does Reid get to say he 'mispoke' when it was written in his about to be published book????  I can understand if this was a comment recorded from a conversation live but this is written in his book.  Oy Vey!

Daiwa I agree with your statement, we shouldn't be the executioners, but I believe the OP was so much if he should stay or go, just that there is a double-standard going on here. Reid just had his "slavery" comment a short while ago, so I'm not sure if there is something underlying going on. But this is the party that says it for equal rights, yet plays the race card like a pro. Reids conscious (or lack of one) will tell him what to do. The anger here is in the cover-up. That's what I gather from the responses.

Fox News included? They are the MSM, and if you're going to not trust the media - then it would seem logical to not trust the media as a whole - no matter where they slant. 

Notice how nobody here mentioned any US news organization by name? That is until you with your Fox-phobia. No one specified liberal media, which usually springs you into action. And you wonder why people have issues with you?
