Impluse LIES

So my buddy has Sins of a Solar Empire, and the Expansion (Entrenchment).  And one day when it updated it deleted it from his comp. Now his impulse has no "my games" or "my software" tabs, he cant reinstall Sins or Entr, but in the registration it says he has them, and it lists thier serial keys.  To boot, when he does the 'send me my cd key' thing where it sends the list of items you bought through impulse, it says he has nothing. So then why are they registered to him? and how does he go about reinstalling them?

Oh, forgot to mention, he has sent several notificaitons to the '[email protected]' or w/e but evidently no one over there cares that he bought something from him and they wont let him use it, so don't tell us that: "you should talk to them about it", cause they don't care anyways

He best contact support, which opens after the normal holiday period, he will be dealt with in order.

Support methods here.

Support wont be available til next moday I believe, so the accusation of they dont care is moot, because there is most likely no one there to read it or respond.. Not to mention they will be swamped when they return, also being patient and a little less abrasive would serve you both well.

Also do not resubmit any thing til you get a reply, as sending over and over with no reply will send it to the end of the list and will make it longer til the email is seen by a dev.

ok... when's this "normal holiday period" end? and he's a tad pissed at support now anyways, so he won't deal with them (which means I might have to if thats how it is :P)

and btw this sending of emails to them started about 4 months ago... well before this holiday season, so why haven't they replied yet?

Stardock will be back to normal working hours on Monday.

If he already has emailed support then he should have a trouble ticket number. Also, support would need to communicate with the purchaser of the program.

Support contact hours and info. - Stardock

Have you tried clicking on View in Impulse and then Edit Columns and after that 'Restore Defaults'?

Tell me... Where is this "View" you speak of ? Hidden under all the layers of fail hardcoded into this program perhaps ?

Naw, I wouldnt worry about it. I'm never buying anything from these guys again. This is the third time I've had to deal with this crap, and I'm just sick of it. I'll drop the $40 and buy a physical copy that I can install and uninstall at my leasure.

Or better yet, i'll just pirate a copy seeing as I've already paid for it.

I don't know what the issue is with waiting until Monday. You act like my 13 year old when he has to sit and wait for WOW to do it's update. They will get to your email/complaint/issue. In the meantime, I can gaurantee that threats of pirating will get you no where, especially on this site. They tend to get people banned. I also belive once you 'pirate' a copy, you can definitley forget about any and all updates. Take a breath, relax, and chill until Monday. You'll be much better off.

Why are you writing for your "buddies" problem anyway?  Is he even a registered user?

"He" is right here... Yes, I'm registered, but my friend there still has faith in this company. I don't want to "chill" and wait till the end of my holidays, I want to play the game that I bought now. Not monday, now. Had I not used impulse and had bought a physical copy, I wouldnt have been having this problem for the last four months.

And so what if they ban me ? I don't give a rats ass about these forums anyway. I just wanted to play some Sins with my bud.

Also, I don't see how it would be piracy, seeing as I bought (by bought I mean I gave money to the guys who made the game... Therefore "purchasing" the right to use a copy... Just to clear that up for the thickies who believe comparing me to their impatent son is going to help resolve an issue) a copy of the game. So how would downloading the client, then using MY OWN SERIAL NUMBER to play it piracy ? Just because the dorks who made this steam rip off can't get their shit straight doesnt mean I should be out $50.

Quipster...although accessing a 'pirate' ver sounds like a solution I would advise against it...simply because there is a fair to good likelihood that you will also be accessing virii/trojans....something which will make your current state of affairs even less enjoyable.

I find it particularly 'add' that you [or your friend] has had the issue for 4 months and as yet unresolved....that you have been attempting to dl/play Sins for 4 months without success...or assistance from SD Support.

Hey! The government is robbing your future blind and they are open 24/7...go bitch at them...it'll be more productive. Well...maybe not...they don't really care. ;)

No, in all honesty, you're right. Its been four months of this exactly tho... Trying to resolve the issue... And then getting fed up with the BS and quitting for a while. Well I'm bloody sick of it. I've had it working maybe once or twice, but as soon as it decides it needs an update, or for whatever other reason, it just goes ahead and uninstalls, then I have to go through this crap again.

The point I'm trying to stress here is that I'm pissed off because I paid good money for this, and I shouldnt really have to put up with this shit. If you want to make a digital distribution service then A} MAKE IT WORK B} Offer 24/7 tech support. Yea, 24/7 tech support ! If your going to make some stupid service that I HAVE to use to attain and launch my game, then it better friggen work whenever I want to launch my game. Not whenever the support team is back to work. It really doesnt matter tho at this point. I've learned my lesson, no more Steam or Impluse or whatever the heck for me. If I can't hold the disk in my hands, then I am not buying it.

The man has a point.  Impulse is a mess, and Stardock support is amazingly slow.  If it wern't for answers I get from these forums, I'd have given up long ago

your words...

not purchase.

That's waht a pirated version will do when you try to update it.

Never said or expected it to clear up anything, it was just a comparison. But while we're on it, his whining doesn't make the updates go any faster or smoother. And I recall a few times that WOW went down. And then it was back up.  If he suggested 'pirating' a version, he wouldn't have a PC to play it on at all. But he wouldn't make that suggestion. He's mature and knows how wrong it would be.

Yep, Impulse never did me any favors........

And indeed, he does have a point.

Careful with that, when Steam is involved, simply holding the disk usually isn't enough.

Look House, I'm not here to argue with you about your son's maturity in relation to WOW updates. I'm not addicted to Sins, I just want to play it with a friend. I'm not going to lose my cool the second it stops working, that would be silly. I would not be here had I not exhausted EVERY other option I can think of.

For your information, however, I do not currently have a pirated version of the game... Its just that I dont have ANY version of the game. If torrenting one from a shady means and using my serial # (WHICH I PAID FOR!! <-- EMPHASIS ON THIS UNLESS YOU HAVENT NOTICED IT YET !) would work, then it seems like a better option then waiting until the folks at Impulse decided to do some work. Pesonally, when I purchase a game, I would prefer to have my ability to play it not in the hands of some underpaid fellow in India, but instead in my own hands. So yes, your son's whining doesnt speed up the cold hard logic behind a download, no, but my bitching will hopefully modivate the buggers whom I've thrown my money at to allow me to use the product I bought. Savvy ?

well he is now (points at quipster) lol

and, guys... the term "pirate" is not an issue in this situation. Torrents were originally a way to transfer files that were a sort of backup of what a person had paid for.  Really, Quipster wouldnt be "pirating" Sins if he downloaded it, legally he owns a copy so the torrent version is legal. Banning someone who downloaded what is theirs is stupid

Uh, back to the issue at hand, have you looked in Impulse to see if the E-mail address it shows is the same as the E-Mail he used to register the game under? (or, if he changed his e-mail and notified Stardock of the change, it should be what he had them change it to).

All this should be done while logged in with Administrator rights:

Click on the top left menu item, click on "Change login", look at the email address.  If it's fine, click on "Cancel".

If that's as it should be, try clicking on the top left menu item, click on "Preferences", click on "Reset Data".

Yes thank you indeed.  We appreciate your help in this matter.  It is good to see that there's still some intellectual people left in the world.

  .  Hardly.  An intellectual might have actually been able to get it to work.  I'm merely parrotting instructions I've read elsewhere.  But appreciation noted.

One of em is 19, so you're in the ballpark.

You were given good, sound, 'intellectual' advice in posts #2, 3, and 5.

#5-Have you tried clicking on View in Impulse and then Edit Columns and after that 'Restore Defaults'?

Tell me... Where is this "View" you speak of ? Hidden under all the layers of fail hardcoded into this program perhaps ?

And you will find the same hidden button under 'downloads' and 'My Games'.

Did you really want sound advice or did you just want to throw a hissy fit? Geesh.
