It took me a minute to decipher that title...
I'm ashamed to say that I could then read the sentence just fine. Then again, considering how many different usages you've got in there, perhaps that is a great feat...
5H0U1[) 1 70|\|3 17 [)0\/\/|\| 4 L177L3?
Not really. I can finally translate this stuff. Now I'm wondering why I bothered.
Can someone decipher it for the less brainy people here?
The title is "leetspeak thread"
The first posting is "show off your best leetspeaking abilities in this thread"
The second posting is "should I tone it down a little?"
Things of note, |= is F, 1 doubles as both L and I, while combining with 3 for B, and 12 is R. After that, his posts are pretty easy to read.

@lifekatana
1 can mean many things, alone, it is either an 'L,' or an 'I.' When followed by <, it means K........ 1<orn, when followed by a 2, it means 'R.' ...... 12eading is fun!
3 means 'E'
4 means 'A'
5 means 'S'
6 and '13' and 8 can be used as 'B / b'
7 is always 'T'
9 is usually 'G'
0 is always 'O'
[) is 'D'
|\| AND (\) AND /\/ all mean 'N'
Same with 'M' (\/), (T), |\/|
X is ><
Y is '/
# usually means 'H,' although it is sometimes |-|
|= is 'F'
|> is 'P'
I can now read your gibberish as if it's a second language, no interest in using it though...
The wierd thing is, 1337 has the sorts of wierd spelling and pronunciation glitches you get in a real, organically-developed language. Fascinating if you're into techo-antropology. Eventally, someone might even actually create a "standardized" form of 13375|>34|<, and it might even become socially acceptable in certain circles ...... VV007!

P.S. the word like in 1337 wordfilters to heart emoticon >.<
EDIT: forgot the r in learning
You spelled learning wrong too.
Get a life.
A "Proper English Thread" would be more
But, alas, I doubt it would get terribly many replies.
That would be a logical reaction.
I would prefer a "post in the style of Nathaniel Hawthorne" thread.
I swear, that man was in love with the words ignominy and betwixt.
