Objeckdock is dead so sad

Whoever works for SD that post a picture of OD 2.0 promise a beta by end of the year. I am now convince the picture was fake or SD lied. All windows docks pretty much are dead Nexus, Rocketdock etc. and now Objeckdock.

Stardock claims Objectdock is the most popular dock and software they have. Still this doesn't make them want to show it any love, It really sad.

Stardock focus now is selling other software makers games and they just don't care for OD any more. We the die hard fan needs to face that and move on I think we will all feel better when we put Objectdock to rest.

If I am wrong and a couple years we see the vaperware OD 2 (The Duke Nukem of apps) then great.

Illogical to think that Stardock will abandon Object Dock, if only for the reasons you cited....namely it's huge popularity. NeXuS Dock hasn't been abandoned either. Jorge Coelho is doing all that work all by himself.,,and a new edition of it has just been finalized. He's working on new user interfaces now trying to finish the UI's for Winstep.

I keep writing in Forums that patience is needed, and I'm doing it again. If it were a simple thing to do, it would have been done very quickly. If there are problems in making OD 2.0, they'll be solved. The same for Winstep. Just be patient.

The wait will be worth it.

Don't forget OD Plus :w00t:

Yeah, i can't see SD abandoning OD. It really is the best dock out ther imo. Even if they did stop it now, [i have OD Plus ] i would stiil be very happy. It's a really powerful app.

Take a look here....

OD+ is coming.

They said they would release a beta by end of 2009 now that is not the case. When they post the picture of OD 2.0 in June they said a video would come in a week or so not the case so far.

So what is a user to think at least SD CEO should say something.

Priorities change.  OD+ is still being developed and will rock when released.

One of the nice things about being a privately owned company is that things can move about as needs change and nothing gets released until it is ready.

For me I still don't get the higher proprity of Fences, as everything in it could as well have been part of ObjectDock  (they 'just' needed to move the whole fences concept to the dock as a stack), but oh well...

OD has been replace by Fences is my thinking also. I don't care of SD is private or public they should not release a picture and say a video, beta is coming then nothing.

The CEO should show more respect to his customers then allowing a SD worker to release a picture and tease people about a product everyone wants.

Well, your thinking is mistaken. It would be correct if SD had an infinite number of workers, but it doesn't.

There are just so many artists, devs, techs, etc. (Thank G-d just one Zubaz). OD+ 2,0 will get here when it gets here. PERIOD.

This'll be the last time I ask folks to just wait patiently: The endless litany of "When, when, when?" must be very complimentary to SD....but it's really not at all helpful. Will anyone drop what he's doing to cater to you? Will Brad Wardell drop everything he's doing to answer you because you think he should?

In what world do you live?

the simple fact remains, Objectdock 2.0 will be released when stardock are good and ready and crying about it won't get it any sooner. Have patience :)

Well I got tired of waiting for OD+ 2.0.... now I'm waiting for OD+ 3.3. :-"

Also waiting for Win 9... gonna miss 8 altogether, cos when the time comes, everyone 'll reckon it''s another Vista ME Edition dud. ;)

Winstep Nexus dead?! It just got started, and it already offers features no other dock in the market has (live icon reflections, automatic Vista glass blur for semi-transparent backgrounds, animated backgrounds and reflections, etc, etc..., and that is just to mention some of the eye-candy - Winstep is famous for the sheer functionality found in their apps)!

Head over to Winstep.net to see for yourself - last Nexus version is 9.12 and was released on December 1st. Nexus is currently under VERY ACTIVE development.

I was being facetious more than anything... a bit of tongue in cheek, so to speak, to emphasise the 'waiting' thing.  ObjectDock is no more dead than Windows is, but if (some) people can't wait for SD to release and updated, fully working version that's been fully tested to cover the majority of scenarios on all Windows versions, etc, then it is their loss.  If they go to another dock (well most other docks) they'll be doing themselves a disservice.

I tried RocketDock to see what all the fuss was about, and in my opinion, against ObjectDock, it pales into insignificance and is nowhere near as functional or pretty.  And Circle Dock!  Well what can I say??  Blink, Blink, cough, cough...say no more!

The only other dock I use and like is Nexus (see below).

The best sales pitch I've seen for a while JC

That's because it's true!  Nexus is a pretty good darned dock and is under constant devolopment, so is modern, up to date and compatible with all Windows OSes.  Moreover, it is highly functional... not to mention pretty to look at.  The glass and reflection features, along with water and ripple effects, etc, make Nexus a very eye-appealing and pleasant dock to use... as is the entire Winstep Xtreme suite of apps.  What's more, Winstep Xtreme is highly compatible with all Stardock apps and they integrate very well together, with many Windowblinds skins ported over to WSX for even better 'play well together' functionality.

I do like Nexus you can see where it is headed and its all good.

Had a really good look at Nexus mid this year. The reason I kept OD+ is that I have spent money on it and it works the way I want. Its like my old worn out slippers, familiar, comfortable and I don't have the heart to throw it out.

Can't wait to see what OD 2.0 is like and how it stacks up against Nexus. Maybe next year.... :annoyed:

That's for sure!  In fact, the entire Xtreme project has great forward momentum and looks good for the future.  Jorge has put a great deal of thought and effort into it, which clearly shows when you look that bit further under the hood.

It's not an "Either/Or". I have both....and what Jorge wrote about NeXuS isn't a sales pitch...although he won't complain if buyers try his wares...it was completely accurate.

Everyone has good points-- yes that can happen.  Being Stardock has several apologists all over the forums I'll chime in on the complaint side.  Been buying thier stuff since 2003 and love it.  Have OD and loved it until Windows 7 64 bit and now can't use it nor much of anything else SD has in desktop software.  Obviously, my opinion only but the desktop programs have become what seems like an orphan child to Stardock.  I subscribe to their various newsletters via email and am bombarded by games right and left.  It is no doubt a big part of their business now and can't be given a backseat to desktop apps, but SD was just plain caught with their pants down on Win 7 and 64 bit in particular when it comes to ddesktop applications.  Object Dock not working, Deskscapes 3 releasd and not working on 64 bit.  I owned a subscription to Object Desktop and let it expire recently because there is just too much wrong.  Now with the win 7 64 bit problems even my standalone stuff isn't working.  Impulse is not updating to let you know what is and isn't ready and on and on.

Whether we complain or not, whether Stardock is a private company with limited resources or whatever, one thing never changes-- supply and demand.  As users become frustrated with not being able to use what they paid for and the frustration grows whether it is poured out here or not, sales will diminish and Stardock will make some decisions.  It will either fix its problems by adding staff if needed, stop producing so many desktop apps or spin off a portion of the company to concentrate on that one part of the business-- who knows.  The CEO doesn't 'owe' us anything and buy the same token we don't 'owe' them anything.  They make a great product as they have in the past and people will continue to buy.  They stretch themselves too thin and products don't perform they lose sales-- only time will tell.  Complaining here just gives them a little insight as to how things are going.  All this about there are only limited resources is accurate but if your stuff is selling you either allocate more resources to that part of the business or risk losing it.  The world has plenty of graphic artist, programmers whatever-- and Michigan is a decent place to live-- upstate anyway.

Bottom line, Stardock needs to make some decisions as to what business it wants to be in a year, five years,  ten years from now.  There were the same complaints and the same responses last winter when DesktopX 3.5 was supposed to be out and wasn't.  Notices were posted with "coming soon" dates and were never updated and the customers were not kept in the loop.  Personally, I'm uninstalling everything including Impulse and will check back in mid summer to see if anything has changed.  Years ago I used and liked a product called StyleXP until their service went toally haywire and I found a product called Window Blinds, then Icon Packager and now most of their titles.  Now for totally different reasons things are going haywire here as well.  Maybe there is other software that does the job-- only way to find out is to look.  It is not a big deal, it is not a threat, it's just what happens sometimes and maybe the problems will get corrected-- if it does and there are no workable alternatives to fill the void I'll either come back or do without-- not the end of the world by any means.

Gary....I'm on Win 7 Ultimate 64bit...and everything 'Stardock' I have works on it just fine.

Windowblinds...

Fences....

Dreams...

Impulse...

Tweak7

Even Stardock Central.

I also have SD proggies installed and running painlessly on Win 7 Ultimate 32bit...and Vista Ultimate 32bit...and XP Pro 32bit [3 times].

As for Object Dock....back when I used it [a Dock] it worked PERFECTLY too.... on XP Pro.

I did NOT expect/presume/demand that it followed my changes of OS.  They were MY choice, NOT Stardock's.

Unfortunately there are several people [a few] who presume 'development' must mean "a proggy will follow your choice of OS's ...no matter what they are or when they happen".

SINCE I have 'jumped ship' to specifically 64bit architecture I have actually ACCEPTED that some proggies do not like my change....in PARTICULAR Explorer Plus AND Powerdesk Pro 7.  Yes, I paid for BOTH....yet neither handle 64bit at all well...with frequent 'not respondings'...so instead I am looking at Directory Opus because it DOES have a 64bit ver which so far is handling all I throw at it.

If it means MY decision to go to 64bit is going to cost me another $85 AUD then so be it.  I'm an adult...I can decide for myself....;)
