Gadget Trouble

A friend in need.....

I have a friend in need of assistance. He goes by the name Wizard1956. He has to work, so I'm posting for him. That's just the kind of guy I am!  lol...

Anyway, here is the scenario. He had the Fire Weather Gadget a bit too close to the edge of his screen and he minimized it, poof! It went off screen and never came back!!  We have checked the gadget cache, program data, app data, etc. And we can't find an ini file or anything like it to reset the screen position for this gadget. He deleted it and redownloaded it and still it shows running in task manager, but no gadget is on screen. We tried altering his resolution to no avail...

Any help by anyone knowing anything about gadgets and the workings thereof would be greatly appreciated! I have contacted Romanda and sViz. Romanda couldn't help and sViz hasn't responded yet.

When I have this happen to me with a Widget of Object, I frist delect the item using DX Builder under list objects, then delete the cache for the item, which probably has the postion stored in it, and then load it again and it appears on screen.  I would think that would work with Gadgets also.

Nope, won't work for gadgets. You can't import a gadget into DX, therefore it won't show up in the object navigator. Objects and widgets, but not gadgets. If only it were that easy!  Thanks anyway, John.

Yup,it's true. One poof too many and now it's gone. :'( Something has to be storing its off-screen location as it opens there even after deleting the Fire suite(all components) and the .suite file, clearing all caches ,running CCleaner, rebooting and redownloading and installing the suite.

It appears in taskman but the weather gadget is nowhere to be found.Last seen heading North by Northwest off of my desktop.:(

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes,all other gadgets are fine including the Fire clock. It's the weather gadget that was included with the subscriber suite "Fire"

OT: "Fire" along with most other recent subscriber skins has disappeared from subscriber resources.

I know this is a "last resort" sort of thing, but have you tried restoring your computer to a time when the gadget DID show up?

There's an idea! I should have thunk of that!  Thanks, Karen!

Sorry, I meant to add that I'm looking into it.  I've never seen before, though.  You guys always come up with the oddest stuff...

Kill the process, then go into the registry.  Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\MyColors\ElementFire\Weather and change the 'xpos' entry to something like 300 or so.  Re-run the gadget, and it should be back on the screen.  Props to Shirley for finding this one.

Just as a point of info, this should work the same for any theme, just look for the appropriate name in stead of "ElementFire"
