Lag Bullcrap in Sins

Hi Intraweb, I have a AMD 965C3 3.9 ghz 1600 ddr3 and a EVGA 260-216 and Sins lags terribly on huge scenarios. I bought a pair of 5870s this morning and wondered if those will help that at all. That said, where does all that lag come from, the core that runs Sins never seems to go over 60-65 percent utilization, the video card doesn't either. They don't get "hot" (ten or fifteen percent over idle). Just wondering what needs fixing in my box.

Honestly, I think it is just how Sins operates.  My PC slows down quite a bit during very large battles, but the scenario itself usually runs okay.  I just wish there wasn't as much lag on online games.

Reduce your Empire tree to the bare bones....Unpin everything and turn off the autopin features in the options. This has help my FPS and lag in game more than anything.

If you have a PC that exceedes spec's it could be quite possible that it is net speed related. Tho I do not play sins, I play many online games and most often the lag one experiences is net congestion etc. try doing some speed tests to see how yours stacks up.

I have Pc that is over the top for sins as well and I suffer no lag. So like Eliminator said checkout your net. It could also be caused by spyware/adware or maybe yoru anti-virus is trying to control sins. Drivers not up too date or are flawed. Also could be a hardware defect. They are lost fo reasonf ro lag but I can tell you from my own experience it's not the Sins engine that si the cause.

Thanks for the responses, though I should have been more specific, my apologies. It's the game lagging not the intratubes. The game slows to a crawl ,20ish fps, but this happens without burdening either the GPU's or CPU. (CPU core running sins sits about 60-65 percent utilization GPU somehwat less) I don't really see a fix. fast cpu fast ram fast gpu all cool and stable and yet this still happens, now I'm just kinda curious why it happens.

I don't have any problem playing except large maps 125-150 planets with me and all AI's. Which is kinda bothersome. I had a Nvidia 260 up until last week which was solid. The new cards are very very fast. All games play maxed everything 60 fps. This sins thing bugs me.

Wow, okay you certainly do not have a problem with how stong you shit is. What I am thinkign si that maybe some of your components and the game's engine don't like each other. Other then that it beats me.

There's your problem. ^_^

Remove the option to show trade ships, that should make a huge difference.

That sounds like a compliment. :inlove: I'm curious how an i7 would up the performance with triple channel mem but the intertubes tell me that the cpu socket is changing and I like AMD's AM3 hanging out for a bit. octcore be out in the next year and short of blowing my box up doing something stupid my stuff oughta hold up for a year or two and still be useful.

you still might check services etc..I have found that even the best PC can get over run by surplus services running in background. you might try killing ones running that might be dragging it down..

You also might try game booster .  I use this to help kill off non necessary services, etc when gaming, then restore them when done.

I have the AMD Fusion version which looks very similar to this. Didn't really change much of anything. Appreciate the thought.
