Is there or not problem with Nvidia card ?
While I agree with most of your points, I find this one a little perplexing. Is it only certain cards? I have a GTX260 ran it with graphics full and experienced no crashes with the battles.
I think that it is more related to the driver version that the card itself... it seem that only people with the last official version of the nvidia driver have problem... for now, the only common thing is that people with these problem share a Nvidia card... myself, i have a Nv 8800 ultra and a 9600 Gs... and for both gard, i have no problem... but i use the CUDA version of the driver, beta version...
In fact, sins itself have know problem at the launch too... there was a Nvidia problem who was resolved by a new driver version, or a Vista problem who was resolved by a microsoft kb update...
So, it is very possible that the problem is externe... but something like this have can be detected in the Beta testing periode if these was more long and using more beta tester...
Part of the memory issues also seem to stem from being able to create too large a galaxy and running up against the 32bit 2GB limit. That's something that seems like it will be hard to solve without scaling back the available sizes.
With standart map, you have the same problem... it is more related to time that size... start a game, make a few turn and be busy with something other for a few hours... come back and the game will have grow near the 2gb limit... simply save and reload the game can resolve the memory use... having a game using almost 1.6gb and beginning have the "short in memory" message, i have save it and reload it... result was a game only using 300-400 mb...
Good thing is that the Devs seem involved in the community and listening to feedback. How this translates to improvements only time will tell. With how small the developer is I wouldn't look for any overnight miracles in the patch department though.
Yes, Devs or/and distributor seem to be good involved in their respective forum... Ntronium being newcomers, i don't know them but i know Matrix game... i have other game from them and 10 years after, they are always making patch... not always for correct bug but in some case, for expend unit database or new way the AI work...
The small devs is not a excuse... Ironclad is a small devs and they are able to release a patch for sins in case of problem, 24 hours after the previous patch !!! I think that it is more a money problem... Sins have become a world success very fast, since money was good due to success, it is more easy to have people working on patch... Armada was almost not noticed, i am not sure that the sale are big annd so, it mean more lower money income... if no enough money is earn, devs will not begin to work for free... so, it can be possible that these game will never have any patch !!! And i really hope that i am wrong because these game have a huge potential... the majority of the actual problem have can be resolved with a bigger and longer Beta phase... for compare, see how long are the beta phase for the expension of sins of solar empire ( Entrenchment, Diplomacy )...
