CoolPlayer (by Niek Albers) will be Open Source. He is inviting programmers to co-develop future versions of this great player.

Niek believes that he needs other programmers on his CoolPlayer project to compete with other players.

At the moment he is cleaning of the code for the release.

It's good to see more Windows programmers sharing their code. It really builds a strong community by promoting cooperation and learning.

Cool! good idea. I hope it will become more popular than winamp. Winamp is getting too big.

I think that's great news! I know that Niek has a lot of projects going on all at once, so this means that CoolPlayer will probably get a lot more attention than it has in the past. Perhaps all of the people that think WinAmp is going the way of Windows Media Player (overwhelming, too many features, complicated to skin) will become CoolPlayer converts.

i think, when someone puts CD support into it, it will creep up on winamp very, very quickly...

I remember that when I was younger..
I saw the source code for an app called "Axe" - It taught me how do skinning. I began to play with it...
Then after two years, kewlpAd came out.

Hmmm..how much money will you give me for the CD support?? oh damn, it's open-source
