Here's a way for scoring to reward games with tough starting positions.

I know that this topic has been covered in the past and perhaps I should have posted this in an established thread on the topic. But then I thought, "That's no fun, and I'm too lazy to search old topics." And then I thought, "Man, I love those new lime-flavored tortilla chips." 
But that last thing doesn't have anything to do with this post.
How about if the scoring system took a look at how many decent planets (PQ 15+) are within a certain distance of your homeword, and compare that to the same number for each of the A.I. players. The ratio of this number should tell the scoring system whether or not to apply a modifier to the metaverse score as a way to reward people who fight their way out of a tough spot, and help balance the game against all the ctrl-n restarts.
I do not propose reducing the score in any situation, only apply a bonus for tougher starts.
The radius that it looks at would vary depending on the size of the galaxy. For example on a tiny map it would check for decent planets within your starting sector whereas on a gigantic map it would count all such planets up to 10 sectors away.
Suppose that you are at a 2:1 disadvantage using this statistic. Your score could be modified by taking some percentage of this ratio, say 5%. You would then receive 2 * 5% or a 10% bonus to your final score (These numbers are just examples, dependant on play balancing). Thus you will be rewarded for playing a tough game, but not penalized for using ctr-n if you want to play from a better starting position.
Has this already been suggested? Am I way off base? What type of dip would go best with a lime tortilla? :notsure:
