New SkinStudio 7 Pro beta on Impulse

Just a heads up that there is a much improved SKS7 beta on Impulse for OD Ultimate subscribers.

It adds an updated UI, UIS0 skin creation and lots of new Windows 7 theme parts.

Yesss!!!

Edit: This build kicks ---!

Edit 2: The show Windows flag on the Win7 taskbar option isn't working.

The recolor option in frame builder doesn't work, at least on my machine.  When I tried to use the recolor feature in frame builder everything looked washed out and moving the arrows in any direction did absolutely nothing.  I uninstalled it and will wait until it's out of beta.

Installed it, love it!  Thanks so much.

I love the new layout.

I have a few questions.....

What are 'non DWM taskbars'?

What is the 'sync' button for in the painting margins section?

What are the 'Vista/7 Shadows' for in the perpixel frames and the USI2 frames?

1) No DWM means Aero isn't on or isn't supported on the system- basically the Vista/7 Basic theme mode

2) Beats me.

3) Lets you separate the shadows from the frame image

I don't understand that. Could you clarify, or maybe give an example of when this would happen?

Lets you separate the shadows from the frame image
I dont undestand this either. Why you would want to do that? ...and you cant have shadows on UIS2 images since they have to be .bmp, so does this mean we can now with seperate shadows?

1) The taskbar can't be translucent without DWM- this is an image for a solid taskbar.

2) I don't think it's for UIS2 frames.  I haven't tried this yet myself, but from my experience making shadows on perpixel frames was a pain in the buttocks to get correct, so this should just make things easier.

Opening the Tooltip section makes the sidebar show Textures in this build.  Also, there seems to be two 'no image defined' at the top of the images list.  Also, 'separator' is spelled wrong for menu items.

Okay, the Show Windows 7 start button option seems to be inserting ShowWinFlag=1 into the skin rather than ShowWin7Flag=1.  This ought to be fixed!

I haven't tried it out yet, does the startpanel expand actually do any thing in this version? The settings had no effect in the previous version.

The all programs list background color doesn't work (it never worked in the last sks7 beta either) I have to open the skin in sks6 to ba able to change the color.

Yeah, the all programs background does nothing, neither does expanding start menu.

Also, the Preview Popup > Preview item SKS says has 3 frames, but it is actually only one.

Another thing, the skin wallpaper manager displays an error "The parameter is incorrect" many times and then closes if I click in the big box where wallpapers are presumably supposed to go.

Sounds brilliant! but I'd rather be able to just get skinstudio 7 without having to get an OD sub (even if I had to pay for the upgrade) like with WB7 when it was still in beta.

ThoriumKnight: It will not be much of a wait for SKS7 final.

Everyone else: Thanks for the bug reports.   I will see that they are resolved before release.

The sync button copies the top margin & tile setting to the other edges and is intended as a time saver when you want them to all be the same.

The new shadow sections can be used on Vista / 7 with UIS1/2 or per pixel frames.  Obviously if the users PC isn't Aero capable the shadows themselves will not show.

Ufff....could not connect to servers X(

DWM stands for Desktop Window Manager.  It controls transparency - Aero.

Thanks for the clarification Neil. |-) ...and Purrball ....and Cameochi. ;)

Do you have show prereleases enabled in Impulse?

---

There is another feature I forgot to mention which is on the advanced tab under SkinStudio preferences.  You can now select an OS to target and SKS will hide the sections which do not apply to your OS.

I thought that was pretty helpful hiding clutter when updating a skin.  Another thing I found much improved is the code editor (being able to switch between, add, and remove sections is great)

In the "Section Based" edit mode, selecting "Edit Controls" on the left, then selecting "Edit Tooltips",

I get Frame, Start Menu and Taskbar Textures. Is this a bug?

All the other controls are missing....background, arrows, config button and close button.
