when does "my opinion" become "abuse"??

i won't even tell you where i saw it, but i saw a comment on a skin here, where a non-contributing "citizen" had bothered to take time to comment, and had used the "s" word in the comments....yeah, that "s" word, the one you can't say on TV.

i totally respect everyones right to have an opinion and one of the best things about sites liek this one is getting to read other peopels reviews, positive or negative.

however, there are an infinity of ways to express displeasure without resorting to language one woudl not use in from of ones mom.

(unless of course, yer mom is a gutter-slut)
---------------------------------------------

is there a "vetting" process for profanity here at WC? I know DA has an "etiquette" policy posted, and that when someone gets "profane" up over there, they take care of it...notice the recent "kidde pron" spate over there...it got fixed, and in short order.

Now i'm not comparing use of idiot language to kiddie pron, but nevertheless, i am curious as to whether this is a "family friendly" environment, or if you can just run the potty mouth here all day long?

anyone else noticed this?
am i just an old granny?

kenray: Could you please e-mail me the name of the skin wich recieved this comment?

Why not say it? That joshmo dude is an asshole. And yes, I can use bad words too.
It's Leaf for CoolPlayer, treetog.

kenray: ignore him. You shouldn't even have replied. Those guys write those kind of things to get a reaction from people. Their greatest frustration is to get no response.

And maybe I should listen to my own advices...

Paxx...'advice' is its own plural...Spell checker

I've been known to use the odd expletive or three...but sometimes it is the most eloquent expression appropriate to the situation.

I don't, however think it's appropriate to end up with questionable language permanently emblazoned on someone's work for all to see.
That is the sort of occasion that would warrant a little subtle 'editing' ability...

China...both of those words are in common use, but actually, the latter has a legitimate meaning, and only is abused in use as an expletive.
The former is simply a swear-word....

Kenray...
I just surfed thru the whole Coolplayer section and noticed 3 things.....
1. my solitary Coolplayer skin is pretty darn ordinary when compared to the others there...
2. You specifically have shown a great diversity of styles of skin...really great stuff...
3. That comment on your 'Leaf' skin is more disagreeable in its tone than in the actual use of that 's' word...
4. This is one of those situations whereby you question the validity of allowing all-and-sundry to comment and/or rate your work...
and
5. I can't count....

well, here's the naked heart of my beef:

I have two littel sisters, ages 6 and 7. from tiem to tiem, i like ot send them links to stuff i am working on.
Thanks God, to this date, i have not sent them any links to here, specifically. But i woudl like to. I would love to share my interest in this art with my loved ones, and hoepfully, get them into it.

but obviously, i can't send them here. i mean, they have probably heard the word, but i really wouldn't want their mum peeking over their shoulder to see that Kenray has sent them to a site with dirty words on it.

I shan't care that they should see negative comments about the work. THey usually have soem of those themselves....

....................................

C,
(encarta) 1. an offensive term for a woman thought by others to be sexually promiscuous (slang)

you are entirely right that it is wrong of me to use that word. here or at all.
but i grew up in the south, adn 99.9% of all southern women use that word to describe soemone in their community, and mymom was no exception.
i apologize.

(leave it to say, i woudl not have used it in a comment on someones work, though........)

Well Joshomo just became a "visitor" class which means he can still visit and download but can no longer comment on skins.
He did the same thing to my coolplayer skin, Frond. It was pretty bad, too. Once I replied he came back to dis on it some more. Still, whenever I checked my skin stats, I honestly hoped there wouldn't be any more comments on any of my skins, I didn't want to take the chance of being put down again.

I know what you mean. In fact, it was for this reason we created a visitor access class. People who register start at access group 2 (not 1). If they show they can't be decent human beings to other, they go to group 1 which can't comment on skins.

Such is the case with this guy.

Nice one Brad.
The community has no place for people like that!

The kid just wants attention, just ignore him. Or if you do want to reply, burn him down to the ground with some good old cynical remarks.

Off topic: why is tv over there censored? It'll just focus the attention on those words, right?

Crae,

we have this thing about "putting on airs", y'know.
We have to (at least) give the appearance of having these high moral standards.
Or maybe its a fixation with "child-proofing" our country...

so, no naked boobies on TV, no cusswords, no aads for ciggarettes, you have to use your seatbelt (as a matter of law) and to top it all off, we, as a country, illegalized one of Gods creations ( a plant called cannabis).

Whether all this has made any diference is a matter of opinon.

We're not interested in changing society, we just want to be able to look at skins without reading comments from immature jerks.

I recieved this "S" words on my work posted on deviantart.com from some immature juvenile is the best way I think you could describe him.

First claiming he did all the work I had uploaded as far back as March, even though he had only joined DA during June 2001, and then said the work was "S" ?? ok this guy is a nut case to say the least. But I asked Jark to take care of this but have not heard from him about this abuse..

It was a good thing to see though that the real people who genuinely wanted to comment did so without resorting to bad launguage. Many came out in defense and basically posted a comment wondering why we have these idiot's in the communtiy when they have nothing constructive to give to the community,. Not even in contributing in anyway. Except for of course just to abuse.

To be honest cat,
i wouldn't even have noticed it at DA. THe average user there tends to be between 9 adn 13 years ols, and it shows.

I woudl never send my sisters, or any other juvenile to DA. now, my buddies in the 21-25 age group, yes...

But here, at least as long as i have been coming here, it tends to be pretty mature, pretty peaceful, and wonderfully polite.

until Coolplayer showed up, there were no skins for apps that i actually use here, but i came to chat and participate a little anyway, cuz almost all the adults for skinz came here.

i guess thats why this event kinda "gopt to me".

And i am made at ease to see the reaction in this thread, although i am a bit disappointed that (at least of this writing) the comment remains on the skin....
'gopt' = 'got'...at least I assume so....Spell checker

Who knows, kenray....Maybe one day someone will be given the power and responsibility for 'editing' such comments...

Purrrr... No problems here Kenray... You know I respect you! Just glad you didn't use the "C" word
