So how is the diplomacy beta?

So those that have it, how is the beta so far?

 

I checked my email at work just a little while ago and noticed they attempted to charge my account. Unfortunately it was an old credit card which has since expired so it didn't go thru :(. I resubmitted the order but I'm assuming they won't try it again today.

I'm eager for an in-depth description of how everything works.  Honestly, though, the "faster" game settings are my biggest curiosity.  Just how fast are they?

It should appear in your:

 

Impulse Program > My Games (Where the Vanilla Sins and Entrenchment are)

no you have to wait for the email with the key, then you enter the key into impulse and then u'll see it

It looks pretty good. Started a brief SP game before dinner; but I haven't had much chance to test it yet. New harder AI options! Sweet! Wonder what they actually do though. Will do further testing. Diplomacy techs look cool; can't wait to try them out.

Went onto impulse, it said it was available. Did not have to input any key?

When your pre-order goes through, it should auto-register to your Impulse account (unless you used a different email address). If you still don't have anything by morning, please contact [email protected] or [email protected] and they'll get you sorted. :)

Yeah, I've played Diplomacy a little bit, but only to check out the new stuff for all the races. I haven't played a proper game yet. There are two new difficulty settings: Cruel AI and Vicious AI. I hope that they live up to their name.

Not all the features are available yet, the changes to the pirates have not yet been added. The Diplomacy tech trees are similiar for all races. I would post screenshots but firefox won't let me.

oooh... so now we have to get skilled enough to take on 9 locked vicious ai now... wow.  that might be hard (untill i get a starbase up... :-) )

except there is currently nothing in the gameplay constants file about them so they may not be active. Oh and the pirates will get the domination ability, that will be nasty

i took 4 vicious same time (not that i was scared but a little :D) they don't seem realy different from unfair exept that they spam lf at start maybe ... took one out fast and easy rush, the others don't look so good, as tec they don't use red button, but they do boost planet health at 6000 and boost sb's crazy

The AI right now is not very optimized. I think it might have something to do with a lot of the actual Diplomacy features being left out.

There was another thread talking about AI changes a while back, and one of the discussion topics was the AI starting with extra units.  This would certainly make it harder at the start of the game, but a one-time boost would quickly become meaningless and in the long-term such an AI would be no different from the current unfair.

There was actually a bug in the AI causing it to prioritize some weird things, thus making them much less aggressive. We're looking into fixing this, but rest assured we're going to try and make the upper tier AI as close to Godlike as we can without completely rehauling the AI system.

One thing I noticed (we need a coherent thread for real suggestions) I would like the envoy cruisers to be on a different selectable tier. The way that colony ships and starbase cruisers are. I was playing the computer and i kept slecting all and making my envoys leave the immediate area where they were subverting.

so yeah, take them out of "combat" and put them into "something else"
