Dell Mini 9 and Windows Live Messenger 14 Sound Problem

Well ever since windows live messenger forced everyone to upgrade to the 14 version, my sister and I am no longer able to use voice chat with that messenger. It's been our messenger of choice because her company uses it so we sort of stuck with it. She has a Dell Mini 9. Windows MSN Live 8.5 worked fine. AIM, Yahoo, Skype, pretty much all the other programs work fine with it but this new version has my voice all chopped up at her end.

We've already updated her sound drivers to the latest ones available. Apparently this is an issue for a number of systems but no one has really posted a solution. I figured I might try here to see if anyone else has any ideas. Any suggestions will take me a bit to try since its not my system and being on the other coast she is already in bed, but ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Usually you don't have to update things like messanger.  I would use the restore function and go back to before the update posted and see if that works.  If that doesn't work you might have to find what the update number is and then go into add and remove programs and uninstall it.

Someone with a little more knowledge will probably stop by and let us know if I am right.  Give it a little time.

This is microsoft we are talking about. They sent everyone a notice saying they would require all computers using MSN messenger to upgrade to the latest messenger as all the prior versions would not be allowed to sign on. It was for "security" sake and other reasons.

Trust me. We weren't the only ones who were using the older version because the newer ones were and apparently still are having issues. I was using 8.5, she was using 8.5 (my sister) another friend of mine was using 8.0 and another one 8.0. My sister was forced to update the day before the rest of us and the next day we all got the same message. As far as I know, this voice chat choppiness is effecting several netbooks and, but we can't figure out what's so special about these newer versions of MSN Live that makes it such a problem when all the others work. I mean we're not trying to watch HD content her or 3D gaming on a dell mini, it's supposed to just be voice chat.

I was under the impression Trillian still did not have voice chat. Is that incorrect?

Hello,

Well, the Voice-Chat is only available for some Messengers (not sure wich one) and a Video-Chat is only available in PRO-Version and does Support only a few Messengers too. But Trillian is one of the best Messengers out there. So, you can try Trillian and Add your MSN Account to it and find out if Voice-Chat is available or not.

I got the same trouble with my mini 9, and at long last found the way.

At the Dell site, download Dell inspiron mini 9(910) bios driver (recently updated in the year 2009) and install it. It will restart your system automatically and your sister will hear your wonderful voice. If necessary you can also download the latest realtek driver from the same site.

Thanks for the info. We're going to gie it a try in the next few days and hope it works. I really prefer MSN voice chat to the others so far!
