If you mean the Computer object, it works for me on Vista and 7

The DX Object that comes with DX works. How, I don't know.

If you try to modify what that object does you will break it though on Vista and 7. You also can't create one like that one is made.

This is true and it boggles my mind how it works. An identical one I made opens Documents.....hmmmmmm......

It was a bug. It'll be fixed in the next release.

- Fixed objects with more than 50 custom files crash DesktopX.
- Improved custom files selection dialog (now uses the new Explorer style).
- Fixed "My Computer" shortcut object.
- Added option in DesktopX Builder to disable all sound effects.
- Fixed corruption with 8-bit png files.
- Fixed object rotation showing the last frame of animated objects.
- A bunch of other minor improvements.
- Not reproduced: crash on export with high coordinates
- Not reproduced: layout/font issues with script editor and object browser
- Not reproduced: size limit for remote pictures (and System.DownloadFile) and crash when viewing properties.

In case nobody noticed, the new build of DesktopX fixes a lot of reported bugs. Thanks a lot Alberto (and other people that woked and are working on it)! k6

I'm still seeing the size limit bug (and the crash on showing properties). There should be a RemoteUrlCrash.dxpack file attached to the bug that shows the problem.

As for the high coordinates problem, it no longer happens in the current build (either with a single object or with the gadget that exposed the problem). Another unrelated changed must have "fixed" it cause it always crashes on DX3.5 (I just tested it again to be sure).

How do you even reach this dialog?

In builder mode:

Right click any object and choose properties. On the summary tab, there is a button at bottom right, custom files, it opens an explorer window to choose a custom files to embed. This is how one would say, embed a font.

Ohh! Is that what that font is called? I thought that crossed out W for a backslash was some kind of glitch. Yeah. I get the same, and I've heard others do, too.

Same here.  Can post screenshot if needed.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the object browser - not something I've mentioned along with my reports of the script editor font.

I'm only aware of the script editor font issue. Which would not be an issue if the propery page that let you set the script editor font would remember the setting.

I wonder if that entry in the changelog refer to this issue. Seeing how we're quite a few people affected it's odd if it can't be reproduced.

Is it just me or is the object list now stuck always on top of all windows?

How to run DX 3.5 And DX 4.0 "side-by-side" (you can't have both of them running at the same time though)

  1. Go to %Program Files%\Stardock\ and make a copy of the DesktopX folder (and rename it to DesktopX3 for example).
  2. Install DX4.0 (doing a clean install might be preferable)
  3. Plugin path is hardcoded (and probably object/desktops), so you will have to copy the SDPlugin folder from the old location (DesktopX3) to the new version folder.
  4. If you want to have the old plugins available to DX4.0, you need to copy them to the new plugin location too. There are located in %ProgramData%\Stardock\DesktopX. Simply copy the files you want from the SDPlugin folder in the DesktopX3 installation (do not overwrite the new dll files, especially DXAxHost.app/dll)
Note: When switching between the two versions in DXBuilder with an existing theme loaded, you might encounter problems (it happened to me once and it caused DXBuilder to crash on start), so make sure to export the theme/gadget you're working on, go to %LocalAppData%\Stardock\DesktopX\CurrentTheme and remove all the files. DXBuilder should then start properly and you can reload your theme and continue working on it.

What about archiving? Haven't tried it myself (I forgot to set this before I updated to  4) You can set Impulse Preferences to archive programs before updating. Then you could always restore to an earlier version.
