Need some tutorials for Photoshop

Hey,

I have NEVER, repeat NEVER, created anything using any graphics tool. Well, a stick figures with paint, yeah.

Anyway, I recently got interested in using photoshop 7.0. Now I need a few tutorials to get started. I have been using computers for most of my 16 years of life, so I grasp computer concepts quickly. Im not a total newb, I know what the words mean and stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Adobe OnLine has some good information and user groups also. Simple registration for the site and you can find tips, tutorials, actions, styles, link's to other good sites and also information from others in the groups.

Lot's of people here also know of link's and such as mr BoXXi posted "his site is a Favorites URL keeper by the way".

Also, the Photoshop WOW series of books take you through some serious skill tutorials that can be applied in all areas of use of PS.

Such as taking line art, colorizing it, adding depth, and such, to turn out a photo quality graphic, cartoon style, painting and so on. Without using plugins, filters, actions and or styles, so you learn what to do and how to do it for the exact effect's your looking for.

anyway, just some thoughts...

Gaurdian, try Terragen if you would like to do 3D landscapes...To see what Terragen is capable of in the hands of a master, go to: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/bianco/index2.html
Luc bianco is the best terrgen artist Ive ever seen. Also, go to: Planetside.co.uk to download/learn about terragen.

dood, that luc bianco guy is sending you up. Those pictures are taken from real life, not created with some terragen program. j/k

Damn. Now i cant decide what to do. Photoshop or terragen? How long would it take to master terragen? And Photoshop?

So far, Ive used Terragen for about 5 and 1/2 months and have gotten the hang of it with a few exceptions...*ahem* (Click on my screen name and then click View authors skins) Its really quite easy to create images, its getting them good enought to be accepted is whats hard. (At least half of mine were rejected) But there are some nice tutorials out there to guide you on your way...

Now Photoshop is an entirely different program in a number of ways...First of all, its not free like Terragen. But it can be used to make some VERY impressive pictures. (Just check out some of BoXXi's wallpapers which were expertly made with an older version of PhotoS... also, Apocalypse_67 made an excellent wallpaper recently using Photoshop. I believe its called Tribal Dragon Blue) PhotoS can also be used to make the graphics for Windowblinds. On the flip side, I find PhotoS much more complicated with all its little tools...But like Terragen, there are some very good tutorials out there for it. Im sure a more advanced photoshop user would find that I have left out something worth mentioning about PhotoS...

JEE WHIZ! Are you for real? That Boxxi guy, is he a pro or what?!? Damn, that is good. Im sorry, Evenhorizon, im sticking to photoshop 7. You shouldnt have told me about Boxxi's wallpapers.

BTW, if Boxxi reads this, how long have you been using photoshop? And how long does each picture take you to do, on average? Are you a professional artist, or just make pictures for fun?

"But like Terragen, there are some very good tutorials out there for it..."

For example? I'd be willing to buy books (maybe), but net guides/tutorials would be easier.

Who? Me? A Pro? Nah... I just do this for fun(allegedly). I have used Photoshop for about 4 to 5 years now. I still use Version 5.5, for no other reason than the fact that I couldn't get used to the new interface in 6.0 when they brought it out. Also, I didn't like the Layer Styles thing, preferring to add effects manually. Anyway, 5.5 does what I need it to do, I believe the real skill is in the design of what you make, not what you make it on.

It's hard to say how long a particular piece takes me, I tend to work in fits and starts due to time constraints, (I have a real life job, and a family) and I work on many pieces at the same time, flitting backwards and forwards as I get bored with a particular one. At the moment I am working on lots of new stuff to use for the launch of my new site which should be happening soon.

Thanks for the compliment on my work, I appreciate it.

See you all at BoXXi.co.uk........but not just yet, O.K.?
