Elemental: Pen & Paper

imageI’ve always wanted to do this but never had the opportunity to try it out since schedules are usually too tight for it.  But would anyone here be interested in playing a game of Elemental…via pen and paper…over the Internet through a series of posts?

I would need 5 volunteers who are in the beta, are active players and would have enough time actually play a game back and forth online (almost like PBEM).  We’d set up a simplified rule set but the idea would be to work through game mechanics and decide what is, and isn’t fun.

I would be your DM for the game.  Respond here if you’re interested, have the beta, and have time to play.

Yes, yes and yes.

I'm interested, and have the beta. I also probably have time; when are you thinking of doing this?

as i'm third to post i guess i got to say yes!

weather permitting of course =)

I'd be very interested in doing this. Sounds like a lot of fun.

How simplified will the rule system be for this test?

Sure.  I have the beta.

Interesting.  I'd be willing to give it a shot.  I've also been making impromptu strategy games with my friends since I was a little kid.  Often times, our D&D campaigns become empire building games as well, if their characters decide to pursue a life of politics of large scale warfare, so I'm no stranger to this kind of quasi-loose strategy game idea.  Pick me and I'll also add some role playing flare to my playstyle :-)

It would be fun as a better chance to take a peek inside your head, Brad. Sadly, I don't think I could get into a PBEM game, Pen and Paper is only enjoyable for me if I have 4-6 contiguous hours to burn and some good friends to get together with. It sure would be fun for the rest of us if you posted the PBEM game so we could watch the play by play though.

You asked for only 5 people, and it looks like you got it; however, if you need an extra!

I actually design board games, go to board game designing meetings, and will most likely attend my first Board Game conference this year, Salt Con. Anyway, if you need another let me know.

Well it's not first come first serve. I'll see who else responds by the morning and go from there since it'll be likely a month-long commitment.

I would personally love to participate in such an event if you have spare room.  I will indeed have time for such a thing, and the idea of going through individual mechanics appeals to me, I'm one who loves experimenting around with stuff like that.

This sounds like a lot of fun.

I believe I have the qualifications you seek, but to be certain, what would be the "playing schedule?"  I want to make sure I have sufficient time to fulfill any committments I make.

I'd be up for it.  It would give me a way to contribute, as I'm a big pencil and paper D&D fan, but I'm too new to Elemental-style games to help much in giving feedback on the Beta.

It might be fun to have two/three people control each "team", have a captain and a second, so that there is a little bit of backup for flakey folks.

Sounds like fun, but I'm in school 7 hours a day not counting the absurd amount of homework, So I'll probably sit this one out.

I would be very interested in joining in. I'm in the beta, and have played the game a pack of times, but haven't found time to play since 1B was released. I would make time for this though! I'm available 24/7. My background is, I LOVED HOMM3. I think Elemental is going to be an awesome game, but I don't know much about its equations (well, that's the beauty of computer games, they do all the calculations). I think that taking part in this pen-and-paper game will help me to be a better beta tester, and I'm interested in that. Also, I know what is fun.

I second FutileEmotion-get more people involved and make sure that you don't lose anyone to other life commitments. And definitely post it for the rest of us, we'd all like to see what happens.

I'll almost certainly have the time available, am in beta, and am interested in seeing how things go.

Interesting idea! I'll pass since real life makes it difficult to make a month-long commitment to participate regularly (and it looks like you have plenty of volunteers anyway), but definitely looking forward to seeing the series of posts and how the game turns out.

I wish I could participate... unfortunately life has taken a sour turn and thus my attention needs to be focused elsewhere.

What would be the frequency of turns ? 1 per day . 1 per 2 days ?

How long is a turn ? 30 min ? 1 hour ? More ?

I would like to help an participate. I am very critical and somewhat verbose, but, hopefully, always constructive and responsible in my commitments. Have beta, but also have a job and a family, so that while I "have time", I don't have a lot of it every day or at the same specific times at every day.

Given Frogboy ideas about fun in beta you are obviously out ;P .

@frogboy, do you intend to post the progress of the game to the rest of us?
Sadly, due to Uni I won't be able to participate in this but I'm sure that like a lot of folks in here I will be intrested to watch.

I'd be interested, but I don't want to commit and not deliver. What would be the schedule for 'turns'? Once an hour? Twice a week?
