Fences Pro 7 Beta 1 bug reports

Questions, Complaints, issues

Beta 1 of Fences Pro has been released!

The Pro version adds both icon sorting within Fences as well as on the desktop.  You can sort by name or date or how often you use it or when it was added to the Fence.

This version also allows you to set rules to move icons to specific Fences based on all sorts of criteria.  You can use file type, file size, text at the beginning or end of the icon name, or even based on time (what day it was created on or what time of day).  Fences can also organize all new icons added to the desktop into a Fence.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.  If you see a crash, go to the about dialog in the Fences configuration and click on the Debug Info button and send that to [email protected]

Windows XP 32bit: I am getting a lot of disk activity when I resize a fence which I didn't get with the free version.  It happens when actually gragging the fence and stops if you stop moving but keep the mouse button down.

I am just downloading tonights update and will let you know if it is the same.

By the way - are Fences and Deskscapes 3 meant to play nice together in XP? They don't for me at all, I just get a horrible dark area in about the top left 4/5ths of the screen with a round vignette edge to it.

Update: Still getting the disk activity on resize after tonights update.

Sadly, they will not.

Ahhh, what other new stuff will be added to Fences Pro?  Did I remember seeing something about it being able to be skinned?

The following was reported for the free version of fences earlier, on localized versions of Windows Fences adds English menu entries to the desktops context menu duplicating the existing localized menu entries. While the intention of extending the regular context menu entries to reduce clutter may be reasonable I don't understand why this was done by replacing them. There is a "Configure Fences" entry anyway so why not make this a submenu of it's own where one may find all the functionality fences has to offer?

Fences Pro would not install for me. I told it to install, and it said it was gathering files - but although I left it for 3 hours, it never loaded even 1 kb of anything. Still showed download at 0. I finally gave up, and went back to my Free version. I love the Free version. Not gonna try Pro any more.

I had an issue with the installation of Fences Pro.  During the initial download/install it asked me if I wanted to keep my snapshots and settings, and that Fences Free had to be uninstalled. I clicked yes to all and everything went ok until the reboot.

It appeared Fences downloaded/installed correctly, but when I tried to run it via Impulse I got a "missing context/data" error and that Fences still needed to download.

I clicked yes to that but it hung for quite a while, so I stopped the download, cleared out all Fences folders and data from their respective places, ran Ccleaner, rebooted and proceeded to recommence the download.... no go, it hung for a good half hour (I did the washing up while waiting) and I had to stop the process again.

I eventually got Fences to install correctly by restarting Impulse, resetting my data, restarting Impulse again and clicking the Fences download.

I may be wrong, but I think the issue was caused by keeping my settings and etc from the free version, because once all traces of it were eliminated, and Impulse was reset/restarted, Fences Pro installed and runs like a dream/without issue.

Still can't open .zip files on the desktop. I right click and choose extract files and nothing happens. If I close Fences I can extract them. It worked 2 updates ago.

Have you tried resetting the data... blue icon top left??  I had the same issue a while back (Fences was missing) and the reset resolved it.

There is no "Reset Data" when I push the icon. Under Views I found Refresh. I do see the free version registered. I even registered the Pro version with same Key and it accepted it. But I can not see either in Impulse. It was there previously. What happens if I re-install impulse over instaed of fresh?

I looked up the Fences installation and added that to Impulse view and then ran update and voila it was there. I installed it but can'trestart before AV scan is finished. Not that I don't like talking with you but I hope not to be back for this issue anyways :)

For future reference, try clicking the icon again, then preferences from the drop-down. In the resulting window you should see a 'Reset Data' button. Clicking that will often resolve Impulse issues/missing apps, etc.

That's good, hopefully all is fixed now.... not that I don't like talking to you. ;P

If you have a current subscription to Object Desktop you can access the Fences beta by enabling 'Show Pre-releases'.... blue icon top left> drop-down menu.

I just had to uninstall this because whenever I move an icon the hard drive goes insane for a second every time I do it. Has anyone else noticed this? :(

Emptying the Recycle Bin on Windows 7 x64 when you've tagged it not to be hidden and all the other icons are hidden causes it to be ejected onto the desktop out of its' fence.

I am running Fences Pro v1.0 (released on 12/19).

My OS is WIN 7 64 bit RTM

When running Deskscapes (3.0 version released 12/18) together with Fences Pro the Fences "dissapear" and all of the icons that are hidden and contained in a fence all become visible . This is immediately fixed by disabling Deskscapes.

I hope this can be fixed.

Thank you.

Ok, I have No Ryme or reason but, sometimes for what seems to be no reason at all, Fences remains running but almost all of my icons have disappeared.  I try to go to TOOLS and use a older desktop image, but when I click restore it does nothing.

Sorry Win 7, 64Bit.
