Problem with latest Windowblinds 7 beta

I have been having this problem since the very first beta of windowblinds 7 but was able to get around it by using

the old interface to load some skins. But ever since the latest update i have no access to the old interface as both

wbconfig.exe and sevenconfig.exe load the new interface. every single one of my master skins and subscriber skins as

well as a small number of other skins return the error message "There appears to be no .uis file in this skin. Are

you sure it is a windowblinds skin". Now i am 100% sure they are windowblinds skins because they all loaded

perfectly with the old windowblinds 6 interface but now they don't work. I have included a screenshot. Hopefully

there is a fix for this because if not i have wasted a lot of money on skins i can no longer use or i will be forced

to revert back to windowblinds 6 which kind of defeats the purpose.

I really hope there is a fix for this because i dread having to go back to WB6. Thanks in advance :)

PS: I have tried uninstalling windowblinds and removing all trace of it, then using impulse to download and install the latest beta version fresh. But i still get the same error message. :)

gloss burgundy

crystalline

vox

wraith

rockstar

subsecret

space

stealthOS

turbo

oxidized

nightlit

krome

knot vista

magic

golf

elegance

elan

this is just to name a few, but in reality i own a lot of master skins and every single one of them returns the same error.

Like i said when i was able to use the old windowblinds 6 interface these skins loaded perfectly but now that i don't have that option i can't use any of them. Also ever since the latest update none of the subscriber skins will work either. Hope you can work it out because it's got me stumped :)

Strange. I can't speak on any of the others at the moment but I do know that I have used both wraith and vox in the new interface without any problems.

i forgot to add, i recently reformatted my computer and installed WB7 as a new install as well but still get the same problems.

Last night i loaded impulse and there was an update to WB7 6.80 beta to 6.90 beta but i still get the same issue. i have just downloaded the newest subscriber skin and it seems to be working ok. At first trying to load it as a .zip gave me the same error message so i renamed it to .wba and it loaded ok. But before people suggest i try this with other skins, been there done that :).

they dont work regardless if they are in .zip or .wba format (this was one of the first things i tried as i have come across this problem before). Also when i tried to load the skin sublime it applies but there are no system tray icons nd all the menus are blacked out. I am a long term object desktop subscriber and my latest subscription runs out in 2012 so i know it's nothing to do with "cracked" software as i have purchased all this stuff legally.

that is strange.....I've used several of those recently on both Vista and Windows 7

what OS?

are you installed to the default directories?

Video card? driver version?

other customization software?

any firewall settings or anit-virus settings that might effect downloads?

I too am having an issue.. it would seem with one of my fave skins it has rendered it useless. and only this one skin..notice the start menu.. it wasnt like that this morning before I updated.  if i click on the area where the items are you can sort of see in the BG they popup visible but do nothing.. am on windows Vista BTW..

Aww crap!  Same here and it is also one of my favorites. I hope this gets fixed.

ok i have found a temporary workaround, take your favourite windowblinds skin and rename the .wba file to .zip, unzip it and if needed create a folder for the skin to go into (some skins unzip into their own folder and others don't). then just cut and paste that folder into your windowblinds folder in sshared documents/stardock/windowblinds and then rebuild the list within windowblinds itself. this worked for me with wraith, crystalline and all others i have done so far. This issue stills needs to be addressed but thankfully until then this workaround should work. :)

Well done Nimbin :)

Nimbin do you have a default zip handling program like winzip or winrar?

i have WinZIP pro and WinRAR pro as well as universal extractor. WinRAR is my default unzipper

The start menu for Molten does the same as Xenomorph.:'(   The start menu animation no longer works with RIP 2007. I just used it last week and it was fine.Plasmatron by I.R.B and some other skins have the start menu about 1- 1.5 inches away from the left edge of the monitor. Are some older skins doomed now with WB7?

Your workaround makes me think that the problem is related to how compressed files are handled on your system.

the problem i am having only started once i had installed WB7. everything worked perfectly with WB6.  The workaround is just to get the skins to load in the new interface, the whole problem is WB7 returning an no .uis file message when trying to load some skins. i get the error message regardless if the skins in a .zip or .wba file. My workaround just enables me to get them to work. :)

Skin installation in WB7 works the same way double clicking on a .WBA file did in WB6.  Did you used to double click the WBA files, or use the add skin option in the old WB6 UI?

Your workaround makes me think that the problem is related to how compressed files are handled on your system.

finger pointing at non-related events (or programs in this case) seems to be the norm (oh no, it's not us).

it has been clearly stated that preexisting blinds would not load after updating to WB7. this seems to only leave two options for the problems encountered. 1. impulse, which automatically updates itself (and recently crapped out the MS window automatic update process) or 2. WB7.

I visited impulse recently, to just looked around and was slightly annoyed that impulse updated itself without my approval. next thing "boom" my OS updates failed to load after that. looking around the message boards there were indications that the problem was with windowblinds and that updating from 6 to 7 corrected the problem. okay, I know it's still in beta but I figured getting my updates for my os is important so...

back to impulse to download wb7 (slick interface btw, I like it but miss the scroll bars in the presentations) and again impulse updated itself (yes, and again without permission). but then again the problem with my os updates were corrected.

now this thread has me thinking that the problem may not be with wb7 but with impulse. impulse updates and the ms updates crap out. upload wb7, to which impulse updates itself again and the problem with the os updates are corrected. my reasoning towards impulse is that people who were complaining were not all using wb but colors and other stardock programs. the commonality was updating through impulse.

my suggestion would be to visit the impulse site and see if impulse updates and if it does, does it correct the problem? you may even want to reinstall wb7 just to be safe???

Impulse will default to automatically updating itself (and just itself not apps) in the same way as Steam does.  I believe this can be disabled inside Impulse if you wish.

However the problem with Windows Update was unrelated to Impulse updating.  It happened when a Microsoft update (An optional one I believe), was installed on your PC.  Installing WB7 resolved the problem for you, as would have updating to the very latest version of WB 6.4.

Regarding this problem, the WBA extraction code is the same as was used for double clicking WBA files in WB6.  Chances are something is causing the paths being passed to the WB extractor to be invalid in some way and it is something we will be looking into.  I suspect it is a shell association issue.

Regarding scrollbars in WB7, do you mean there is no scrollbar in the preview, or in the lists themselves?

The scroll bar is hidden until you mouse over the blinds. For me, it's not so bad in Windowblinds.

I have a big problem in Deskscapes since I have over 400 dreams loading. It seems that the more skins you have, the smaller the scrollbar. Mines only a couple of pixels in length in DeskScapes.

You do not need the click on the scrollbar bit to move the window.  Clicking above the scrollbar will let you drag the list, or clicking in line with it will let you scroll in the same way you can if you had clicked on the visible scrollbar.

thank you, I'll look into that option.

on the update issue, oh, you probably know best.

in the preview screen, and again might I mention that I do like WB7, very nice.

It seems that the more skins you have, the smaller the scrollbar.

yep, sure seems that way

Neil: I tried both ways, but i still get the same error message.

Which works quite well but if you're at the begining of the list and want to go to the end, it's not that useful. What would be great is to have the ability to manually add tabs so the user could split their skins /dreams into smaller groups.
