Cant uninstall stardock/alienGUIse

Hello.

A friend of mine installed AlienGUIse on my laptop, which is running vista. When i tried to uninstall it, it just gave me an error. I've tried to download some uninstalling tools, but it cant open the setups. I cant change my theme because it tells me that it cant find the folder. Do i have to delete everything on my computer or is there any other solutions to this problem?

Have you tried Revo Uninstaller or CCleaner?

Also, where did your friend download it from? It may have been "altered".

Have tried both Revo and CCleaner. He downloaded it from the official Alienware homepage. Didnt have Stardock MyColors before he did so, and now i just cant get rid of the AlienGUIse theme. I cant really install anything or open anything. Word programs works fine and games / programs from before the installation works. But i cant change the theme when i go to properties ect.

Sounds to me like the Alienguise uninstaller is either missing or corrupt.  You may have to download and install the Alienguise theme manager again - to overwrite the current files/reinstate the uninstaller - then uninstall via 'Programs & Features' in Vista.

I had a similar issue a while ago - Alienguise was incompatible with other apps - reinstalling to uninstall fixed it. :)

If you do that (^) find out where your "friend" downloaded from, and try to get it there....the file might have been corrupted on download, and redoing it might turn the trick. If not, the file might be corrupt at that place...try downloading it somewhere else.

.try downloading it somewhere else.

As far as I know, the Alienguise Thememanager is available only from the Alienware site... in 'downloads'

It was a while ago now, but I believe it was modeled on Stardock's Thememanager... however, there are some differences and the required files would be in the Alienguise version.

It sounds like you may have some corrupted system files... see here and here for more info.

As the linked article suggests, try a system resore to a time prior to Alienguise being installed.  If you can it should reset your system files back to normal.

If this fails, you could try inserting your Vista disc and perform a sfc/scannow file repair scan from the commandline in the repair option.

Other than that I can only think of the clean install option at this time.... so try the above and see how you go.

Best of luck. :)

lol stardock prevents me from using sfc/scannow as an adminstrator ...

:maybe:

Stardock can't prevent anyone from running a program on his/her computer, mate.

Sounds like you need a format/reinstall vista. You might want to do a really deep system scan with some topnotch antivirals/antimalwares.
