mine is the image of a sister that is always spouting off at me to change my views on all subjects to match hers, especially religion and family. personally I just IGNORE it. and I think that those people that belittle others views and tell them that their views are wrong and that they should change them immediatly to aggree with the nagger ARE intellectually abusive ans SHOULD not be allowed to have contact with other people.

If someone insists on trying to argue religion with me, I'll point out how their beliefs don't necessarily match the religion they claim, but it's only if they push and more in the hope that they might later reexamine their beliefs. Rarely works, but not my problem.

I dunno. On the one hand, I don't put too much belief in something that I can't test and prove. On teh other hand, I know I have a limited number of answers to just about anything. I don't necessarily knock the idea of a higher power just because I'm not perfect and really don't have any concrete proof that they're wrong. Then again, belief without reason or self-examination is both foolish and dangerous. I guess it depends on what your beliefs are and how you handle them.

fortunatly she and her family live about 5 hours drive away, and in a part of the country that is known for very high temperatures in summer, very cold temeratures in winter(matter of record by the weather records) and loud irritating noise through the summer(my opinion). and she wants AND NAGS EVERYBODY until they agree with her to shut her up. I found the best answer is to get her to read out various signs around the house like 'everybody needs somthing to believe in. I believe I will have a beer'( she does not like beer because of what she perceives to be it's results( reduction of inhibitions)), and she ALSO nags about the consumption of alcohol and all drugs, even foods she does not use everyday(mostly rice with a bit of carrot), and yet when she and her family visit they eat us out of home guzzling anything in the house as though they have been starving themselves before the month long visit that usually wears out thier welcome by the second week along with them kicking the household pets while spouting claims that they respect all creatures. basically they operate very double standards ie everybody do what I say, not what I do and do not call us on what we do which is against what we say.

sorry about the rant, but it does help to get it out occasionally.

Hey, harpo, I know the feeling. Good luck with that. Personally, I just make the person understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're unwanted, even when it's family. But then again, I am the type of guy that cares little about what others think or feel as they don't bring me down constantly.

draak, I HAVE been doing that for the last 30 years, but it STILL has not sunk in. she and her husband BOTH will not receive, let alone accept, ANY idea that they did not originate. the only method that has had ANY degree of deterance of them is simply be unavailable to them when they want to visit, so that they have to alter their plans AND SPEND money instead of leaching off of family.
