No, I work at Stardock – really!

Every so often I get a flame private message from a fan of one of our games telling me to “give Stardock a break” because they see one of my posts as “flaming” Elemental or Demigod or Sins or Galactic Civilizations.

Just as a head’s up. I work at Stardock. I’m one of the developers on some of these games or am the product manager. It’s my job to complain about the games and to make them better. Please don’t PM me telling me that I need to be “nicer” about the games.

Seriously though, I know it's annoying, but getting told you don't work for your own company and you need to be nicer to your employees is hilarious. Are you sure it's not some of your underlings poking fun on Imp accounts?

You might also want to mention that you have another forum identity. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who don't realize you have two (possibly more, who know?:P ) Of course, maybe you prefer most people don't know;P

But seriously, it is a good thing that you haven't joined the choruses of Stardock's fans yet. It means you're still finding ways to improve and make yourself better.

Least they can figure out how to private message.  I hear IGN still gets e-mails from older folks or confused people telling them off for how their game sucks or asking for patches.  :dur:

I feel better about that now, too. I tend to post what I believe to be (constructively) critical comments in the hopes of helping to improve your products (well at least you have liked my GalCiv2 posts!), but many "fans" appear to believe that anything short of permanent unconditional praise is "flaming". That makes me sad. It's like in any serious relationship (spouse, parent, friend, whatever): you have to be able to give and accept constructive criticism if you want your relationship to flourish, no relationship will last long on kissy-kissy only.

In the fans defense, it's not always easy to keep track of Brads multiple personalities on here. One day he's frogboy, the next days he's draginol, sometimes he's just plain Brad. Sometimes they all sound the same, sometime I think he has some kind of multiple personality disorder. }:)

Even I got confused when I saw these names and didn't know they were all the same person.
