map editor and modding tools (official one)
this game limits itself without those
we need both to make more out this game even if it is something i have to pay

Use search and you will find many threads detailing the 1.2 patch, which includes modding ability.
mods will be used in single player only... sigh... hopeless sigh....
out of who's arse did you pull that!?
It's been a long time since I've seen someone outright lie on a bulletin board.
irek has a point. If we take Supreme Commander as a reference, sim side mods are very rarely used in online play. Some mods got more popular over time though and there is a good chance now to get a game going with them (e.g. the Phantom mod). This is because there is no automatic mod distribution system.
UI only mods are used all the time though.
sorry Spooky, just caught you're other thread, what do you mean by sim-side?
Well, a mod that changes the favor items balancing would be a sim-side mod for example. Everyone's game needs to have this mod (otherwise the game would desynchronize). UI mods only change the way the user can interact with the game, but doesn't change any value of the simulation itself (or any blueprints etc.).
gotcha - so the thinking is that people won't have these mods and hence the comment about it only working for single player...
well seeing as we're already downloading entire games (those who're not using brick and mortar stores) i can't see getting all the mods as prohibitive.
given that this implantation sounds to be fairly straight forward, i.e. you can toggle them on/off in game why wouldn't you have them?
don't know about older games but i would imagine this game being largely sold online would have players used to downloading, time will tell.
p.s. aside from balance (which if good will be brought into the game proper), UI mods are the kind of thing i'm waiting for anyway, brings on the mods! ![]()
In my opinion, i wish we could incorperate mods, but it cant be done really. With custom creations flying everywhere, there would be nearly no balance, and the game would turn into what war3 did. The game's actual aspects will disapear over time. Really, i do with that there was a great way to do it, but it would be hard. I mean if it were limited to only like sinlge player testing, then maybe that could work, but trust me, it would be really hard man.
it's been said by Frogboy that if a perticular mod proves to be popular with the comunity it'll be brought into the game and released as an impulse update.
not sure if that's what you meant but thought you might like to know.
Also Brad has suggested that some mods may be hosted by Sd themselves, and that when you join a custom game that has a particular mod active that you do not have installed, DG will automatically download said mod from SD and install it.
This was mentioned some time ago, and i assume it still was meant for popular mods...but it's a solution that would work well i think.
Exactly. I've seen balance mods used before by other communities, where it's a few small changes that are generally quite acceptable. For example, I believe we can all agree that QoT could use some improvements and if there was a mod that balanced her in line with the other Demigods, I'd be happy to use it.
