ObjectDock Plus Backgrounds

My backgrounds are somehow in two different folders resulting in double listing of backgrounds when I open APPEARANCE. Which is the correct folder for backgrounds to be in so I can delete the other.

There are 2 places to put them, and both are "correct."

"Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Backgrounds" is easily accessable, but placing them in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds" allows the tabbed backgrounds to utilize custom +/- images.

Many argue that placing them in the latter location is the best.

Sorry to sound ignorant but I deleted one folder and I still have a double list of backgrounds in the appearance list. I did a search on my computer and I am not getting any more than one of everything. I am new to Objectdock.

My list looks like this:

Kali tabs

Kali tabs

Apollo

Apollo  etc.      I don't know how to get rid of the doubles.

I forgot to mention that I have uninstalled and reinstalled ObjectDock Plus but it did not help.

Which folder did you delete?

How did you install OD+? Through Impulse, or some other way?

Did you uninstall OD free first?

I unistalled the free version first and I installed and reinstalled plus through Impulse.

Douments/Stardock/ObjectdockLibrary/Backgrounds

I deleted the backgrounds folder from this path.I still have the other backgrounds folder in C/ etc.

I ended up deleting all of the backgrounds that came with the install out of the C folder. I just didn't like them. Subsequently, I also deleted all of the sub folders inside of the backgrounds folder.

I would suggest, for starters, deleting all of the subfolders. Just make sure you move any of the skins you want to keep directly into the backgrounds folder.

Who knows, you might find that there's some duplicates in there.

OK I'll give it a shot. Thanks for all replies, I really appreciate it. If it works I'll post in case someone else has this problem.

OK! I finally figured it out! I had two configuation.ini files in each folder. One was just called BACKGROUND. The other had the actual name of the skin. I deleted the plain BACKGROUND configuration file and now each skin only shows up once. Amazing what some sleep with a fresh pair of eyes will do for you. Thanks again for all replies.

Is this an "undocumented feature" in OD 1.9? I ask because it seems that simply having all relevant documents in the former directory would be more in keeping with the direction that Microsoft appears to be going with Vista and (I guess) 7. It makes more sense to me personally to have everything under a user profile documents directory tree.

A not-so recent upgrade to OD went the route of placing them in the My Documents path, but didn't remove anything from the C:\Path.  For now, it comes down to user preference I think.  I read a post about where to put them and such that bkgarbageman, Mirsguy and messiah1 talked about...forgot the post name though.

The dockzip feature places them automatically in the My Documents path.  I don't see many people using that dockzip feature though.

To get the full effect of OD and the work people put into creating the docks all backgrounds should be placed in the C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds" folder. I had the axtra folder placed in my "My Documents" folder as well when this vista thing came along and just deleted all those extra folders from "My Documents" and everything works just fine. ;)

And I don't use the .dockzip method just for that reason...I don't want it re-creating those folders all over again.

I have found that I can't completely eliminate the OD Library folder in Documents but I would like to. Once you back up any themes,a Stardock folder is created there with a subfolder called "Backed Up Themes" ....duh. I see no way to point this to any other location in OD Plus config. *I wish they could be placed into Program Files/Stardock/ObjectDock/Themes where the defaults are kept.

*Hint to the developers*;)
