task preview + jump list

Far as I know these are available with the smaller taskbar too, the only question is taskbar size preference.

14-4 so far.

fat one defo :wc:

I prefer the small one. Just have the fat one enabled because some WB-skins cut the startbutton.

I go back and forth. I like the old look and functionality of Vista, but I also like the new functionality options in 7.

It is fair to note that big start buttons made specifically for the big 7 taskbar don't look right when the taskbar is made smaller.

Question was.. if you could just choose one taskbar size only.

I'm trying to keep it simple and debate free at this point so as not to taint the pool, which is also why I havent weighed in on it yet myself with any reasoning.

It should be noted that the fat taskbar is the standard taskbar on Windows 7 (I.e. its the default that everyone will see out of the box).

Be that as it may, most people would consider standard as being the thinner taskbar... being the fat one is 'new' to Win 7 and not everyone has seen or used it yet.

I have seen/used it, and frankly, I don't like it, particularly in default Windows 7 mode... too flat and it lacks shape/definition.  Hopefully WB7 will remedy that.

No one's debating. Just said I like both.

But I s'pose I'd go with the bigger one since that's the one I use regularly.

ok, sounded like a little internal selfdebate :D

k, so one more for fat.

If you could only have one.

Is someone going to force the choice upon the user?

Is someone going to force the choice upon the user?

If so, then I'll have the fat thin one... or the thin fat one, either will do. ;P

I was going to explain why I have asked the question in another post when the polling died down.

21 thin - 6 fat so far.

I was going to explain why I have asked the question in another post when the polling died down.

Back in the early days of skinning [last century/milennium] I remember a similar poll....relating to what 'should we bother to' skin in Winamp....that's back when it was THE audio player of choice....ver 2.  "oh, but who bothers with any of the other modules other than the playlist, main and eq?"

The answer then was "you skin it because it is there.....anything less is simply incomplete and half-arsed".

When it comes to a Taskbar...if the OS has two versions then the only acceptable option is to skin both [correctly], whatever it takes.

Options for who chooses what as their default skinned interface should be left where it belongs.... with the user.

Well thank you oh wise one for making my point so concisely.

Right now.. in the beta.. When one size is skinned correctly .. (the correct size) then the other is too big.. or too small.

After a couple of conversations with a couple of people 'in the know" I was left with the impression that .. the main focus was to skin the 'Superbar' correctly because.. that is what the main option used.. will be. It's new, its flashy.. its fat.. it's super, why would ANYONE use the older slimmer.. weaker etc XP style.. People will 'come around' once they use a fat taskbar for a while and see how great it is. That it was already overwhelmingly more popular amongst beta testers. :sheep:

Well, I could not agree less, as you might imagine. Like you said.. if the OS has two options, then WB needs to skin both correctly and leave the user to decide which he prefers.

Skinning one correctly and letting the other fend for itself can't be an option.

I've actually been at odds with more than 2 people on how popular the fat bar is and might be which is the reason I wanted to post this 'poll' and find out for myself and hopefully for them too.

After I suppose as many people have posted as are going to .. the 'final' result is not only not the fat bar being slightly more popular.. but vastly less popular.

Now..for all I know Neil plans to continue to try fix the issue.. He probably is and I hope he will, I'm not doubting Stardocks vision for its own product but being a hard core skinner myself and as one who makes his living, albeit a meagre one from using the WB and SKS products I wanted to make all involved at least aware of what confronts them as far as community opinion on this issue.

I mean no offense or hard feelings to anyone and I hope I've shown that if nothing else that both bars will need to be skinned correctly if everyone in the community is to be ... a happy camper. I hope folks understand that I say what I say with only the best product possible in mind for everyone.

I know I can't put up a Master skin with just one taskbar skinned correctly in either direction, people will have my head so I hope I have at least brought the issue into perspective.

I may post a thread this weekend outlining my thoughts pertaining to the Pro's and Con's of both designs. I just wanted to get a rough idea what the numbers were.. first.

I use the "FAT ONE" on my 1920 x 1200 res. monitor.

I turned on the text too.

i like the fat bar without text...newer and still is cooler to me...lol..idk why...just is and thats prolly the way ill stay, being i like to adapt to change, but what ever you decide to do until the problem is fixed in sks, i'd hope the community understands and DOESN'T "HAVE YOUR HEAD" for something thats uncontrolable right at the moment          peace in the middle east, im tired and im off to bed folks ...goooood night
