40k movie finally - ultramarines amimated 70minute movie

well we will see if it comes to fruition

make me happy just to see it done! At least they are letting somebody have an honest go.
I just looked up codex pictures too and I'm happy that they are UK based. Means hopefully we will get those
great UK voices that they had in the DOW1 intro. That Marine Captain sounds so much more hardcore as an imperial absolute rule disciplined type.

I'm wondering if they did the DOW1 intro - now a movie with that kind of animation would be amazing!

Introducing Ultramarines – A Warhammer 40,000 Movie!

27 September 2009
For the first time, Games Workshop’s globally renowned Warhammer 40,000 universe is to be realised in a feature-length movie on DVD.
Ultramarines is a 70-minute sci-fi thriller that will use CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques. Games Workshop is delighted to be working with UK-based production company Codex Pictures, who have the momentous task of bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to the screen.
Commenting on the news, Erik Mogensen, Licensing and Acquired Rights Manager for Games Workshop, said, “Over the years, we have been approached again and again by all sorts of producers and film companies wanting to take our intellectual property to the screen. We have always believed that, in the right hands, the stories, themes and characters from the Warhammer 40,000 universe would lend themselves perfectly to the movie genre. We’re working closely with the talented team at Codex Pictures, who have an excellent understanding of the Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property and an inspired vision for the movie. We can’t wait to see our universe come to life on-screen.”
“We’re hugely honoured to be making Ultramarines,” said a spokesman for Codex Pictures. “It’s taken a lot of research and development to get to this stage – and it’s such an exciting challenge to be able to bring the depth and power of the Warhammer 40,000 universe to a brand new medium.”
News of the production of a movie was unveiled at UK Games Day, the biggest event in the Games Workshop calendar, on Sunday, September 27 2009.

This is probably going to fail. A 70 minute long movie about Ultramarines by a studio who've only made Lego and Bionicle movies?

A R rated (or NC17) full length movie (well, movies) about the Heresy would be better...

Yeah...Space Marines...lame.

don't get me wrong; I'm happy there's FINALLY a W40K movie..but agian, the Space Marines wins the day..

Make an Imperial guard movie; at least they'll be some death on the Imperium side..not to mention you can actually give the characters personalities instead of being all "HONOUR, GLORY, FOR THE EMPEROR".

Oh well it might fail since it might go all niche movie (70 min is hardly a movie) or jut be PG-13 and they'll remove all the gory grimdark

Yeah...Space Marines...lame.

Not lame but absolutely logical. If it's like quite successfull, maybe they can start making other movies (other marine chapters, eldar craftworlds, a black crusade or whatever else... it's not like they don't have a whole universe of stuff [in space and history] to use)

I know;  jsut that character wise, Space Marines are not known to be lovable gents; just brianwahsed superhumans who's all about grimdark and dying for the EMPRAH.

Except if they go down the Rogue Trader Road, they we'll ahve crazy ass knights, rather than crazy ass monks.

Plus, BEAKIES!!!

And I'm an IG guy more than a SM army man..IG FTW!  I'll drown you in lasbolts!

See? No need to invest a lot in outline then. Put some Chaos in a corner and just make sure to point the marines in the right direction. The rest of the movie can be "BAM!", "BOOM!"... with a cut here and there about a marine being tempted by Chaos and something like that.

And be positive, the probability of a movie about the Imperial Guard is bigger than for Sisters of Battle. :P

Don't think so; a bunch of hot ladies in form fitting power armour with a backgorund of lesbian and S&M induendos....C'mon that'll make the men happy for the hot babes and the woman happy as woman can still be strong, brave and equals as men, but at the same time safeguarding thier feminity and feminite purity./sarcasm

but yeah- less to pay for scripting and..well "acting"

But yeah- logical move after that is IG: with Commissar Headshot dispensing the Emperor's justice
