OMG!!! the ai DOES actually attack the pirate base!!!!111

so... i was testing a map... a 1v1 map, against an unfair ai... and 3 pirate bases.

the game started.

I promptly did nothing.

I did nothing for most of the game...

eventually the pirates kill my homewold, and i lose.

I keep watching... speed set to x8... to see how the ai colonize my unconventional map and so forth.

the ai colonizes preety much every planet... the last of which they colonize by sending about 500 fleet supply worth of ships at a volcanic with stardard milita... i am like "wow... over kill?"

after that... thier fleet flys around a bit... clearing the pirates off of thier planets...

and then...

thier fleet JUMPS TO A PIRATE BASE!

and ATTACK IT

AND!!!... there... siege frigs run around the grav well and kill them selves on the turrets on the other side of the grav well instead of the side they jumped in on...

BUT thier fleet kills everything!

and then leave the ai left some seige frigs to finish it off... and MOVE ON THE THE NEXT ONE.

WOW, after a year of playing... and watching the ai never touch the pirate base... never going through the pirate base to attack you... never doing anything to the pirates... I always thought that the ai was just hardcoded to just never touch the pirate base... and now... the only reason they never attack the pirate base is cause they would just rather attack you... !!

ROFL.

It is so cool to discover something new in the game!!!!111

as i was writing this, they finished off the last pirate base... and their entire fleet is sitting on the last one... doing nothing... cause their is nothing left i guess... but every single planet (including pirate bases) are under their control!

They actually are massing to attack your CPu TRON style!

They avoid pirate bases like the plague, but they do attack them under extreme conditions.  That is, in the case where nothing is left to conquer, or the pirate base is actually in their way.

Yes, in plain sins I've several times seen the AI take out the pirate base.

That does make much more sense than sending their fleets THROUGH the pirate base in order to attack, which sadly also happens pretty often. It's quite easy to take such a weakened fleet out...even an asteroids full defense often is enough to make the fleet flee back to where it came from (the pirate base) and flee from there back to the asteroid...until nothing is left of it ;)

The first game of Sins I played, a 1 vs 1 against the Vasari with them as an easy economist, they also attacked the pirate base. It was on a random small map. I was separated from their sector of the solar system by the pirates. It was after about 12 hours of playing though, while I was still figuring everything out.

Yup, it's pretty sad, but often the pirate base might as well be a non-existent planet with the AI. I can usually treat it as such.
