What do You look like?

Post a pic...if you have the guts :P

The title pretty much says it all. I notice I'm like the only person on the forums who uses a actual pic of themselves as a avatar. I like putting faces with names. If you've got the guts, post a pic of yourself.

Note: Guys, if any girls are nice enough to post a pic of themselves lets try to be mature and not drool on them ok. That's why most girls on the internet don't even say that they are girls.

Let the Posting begin!!!

There's just too much people that could use picture on the net. Nothing is really private on the net and I prefer to stay "old cat" than my real name. You avoid stereotypes ... Imagine i'm asian .. or fat .. or androgyne .. or with a big scar all over the face or .. etc. You wouldn't listen to what I say as closely as if I'm just "vieuxchat". Just remember that what's on the net could be copied, re-used, used against you in some years, etc. In France, where I live, a newspaper kind of made a biography of citizen with just what was on the net (facebook, i'm looking at you). That was frightening .. they know almost anything of his life.

Another little story ? Someone got a job interview .. and the bosses showed him a picture taken from the net where he was showing his ass ... things like that shouldn't ever happen, but everyone should be carreful with what they're "giving" on internet.

There's IRL meetings to let people know each other better ;)

I agree vieuxchat you make a good point of course. I'm not asking anyone to share private information. I'll never give my real name out. Everyone here and on the web in general only know me as Raven Xavier. As for Rl meetings. One of my old UO shards used to have a "get together" every couple of years, usually a picnic. It was always a fun time.

@ Polynomial: it's nice to see I'm not the only one.

I like to create characters in RPGs that look like me. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. My housemate used to often comment that the character looked like me, if he walked in on me gaming. But now he's aware of what I'm doing :)

It depends where you live. In some countries, looking as an asian will change the way people talk to you.

Sadly we have stereotypes for a reason, because more often then not they are true. I'm not saying they're right, and there are Always exceptions. Stereotypes are Not always true. Thinking they are will only make you ignorant. Here's a example.

In the area of Florida where I live a lot of Indians (from India not Native Americans) own convenience stores. Saying that Indians Always own convenience stores would be a stereotype. A lot of Indians who Migrate to the United States go into Medicine as well. One of my Doctors I go to is named Baharat Patel. He's Indian. His wife is a doctor in pediatrics as is his daughter. He went into Digestive Health. When you look in our local phone book you find 3 doctor Patels. In this particular example saying Indians go into medicine is just as accurate as saying Indians always own convenience stores. Saying they are all doctors doesn't sound as funny as saying they all own convenience stores though, now does it?

Smart people look beyond stereotypes and understand that in reality they could only be used as a vague outline at best to see cultural similarities.
