Seconded. It makes the game and the community look bad, especially at a time when new players are needed.
He has a history of bad game names if you take a look at his profile: http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/games/player/79805/page/2
SD - can we see any banning for this? Getting pretty tired of all the racist game names...
Um, this is the internet? You can't ban all these people. Just get over it is my suggestion.
He obviously thinks it's humorous to do this. I doubt he meant it. As with most young internet users, he must be desiring attention - any kind of attention.
A warning would suffice. He probably knows not what he do.
Well i would imagine that SD could ban them if they so wanted. I'm sure there is a ToS that outlines acceptable behavior and such in game.....I have never checked to be honest, but if there is one, names like this user seems to use would certainly be in breach of one.
If not all we can do is give a community ban. Make it known as wide as we can to not let said users join your games and not to join theirs....they will soon get the hint.
Right... why bother banning anyone. Thanks Poly. It's the internet.
I second this. Whether he thinks he is being funny or not, this type of behaviour should not be tolerated.
Internet or not, this is a privately owned forum, as is the lobby of Demigod. No one has a right to post anything in either place; it's a privilege. Stardock has already clearly stated that it plans to make the Demigod community less "toxic" (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/363381). Also, the Demigod EULA is pretty clear about this kind of behavior ("You may NOT use any abusive, defamatory, harassing, harmful, obscene, hateful, sexual, vulgar, threatening, ethnically or racially offensive language."--http://www.demigodthegame.com/tou).
I hope that Brad & co. will step up to the plate on this and send a clear message to 127721 and others like him.
I'm not sure an outright initial ban would be the right course of action. He needs a warning first, followed by a ban if this behavior continues. I would hope that SD would follow this logic. Claiming it is the internet and to get used to it is a cop out answer. As Hunger pointed out, while the infrastructure of the internet is free and anything goes, everything built on it is subject to the rules and regulations of the builder.
Frankly, if it were me, I would sternly warn or temp-ban 127721 and perhaps issue a warning to those that joined, thereby supporting, the offensive titles.
It is a lot different to ban someone from an internet game they purchased than it is to ban them from the forums. I think a warning is the right action, as I doubt it was a serious viewpoint.
I think that warning/banning people who joined his game is a wrong action, then you're yelling at people because they joined one of three online games they had to join.
Dito. And I agree - a warning might be more than enough to end or curb this sort of behavior. It's true, it is the internet and nothing is really going to stop the next guy from making an appearance with this rubbish...
can we not just do a filter like most other games have,,, i understand that if someone uses special characters or something then sure maybe temporarily ban.. but if you ban someone from this game, that's that. this isn't diablo 2 people arent going to buy more keys, and i know many people around here are all for a small community of only nice people, but personally a nice community doesnt matter if no one is playing the game. to put all this succinctly i support the discouragement of innappropriate titles, but to Ban an account (cd-key basically), i think is too far,, temp bans work well enough
Rofl. I'd permaban him, no questions asked. It's not like "Oops, sorry I accidentally put offensive material in my game title." The more forgiving you are ("warnings"), the more they do it.
Bump for SD work week and great justice!
I second this.
