Why does the west still recognise the "Islamic Republic" as the legitimate government of Iran? When was that government ever legitimate?

I read a report that the major German news programme, public television's "Tagesschau" reported that the Iranian opposition like the regime "supports Palestine and opposes Israel" and that the report didn't show any pictures of actual opposition protects.

Will there be an official inquiry about how many people were killed by the Iranian regime in these last few weeks?

The UN always have time to investigate Israel. I assume Iranian dead are just as dead an Arab dead? (If we cannot be sure if this is true, we should investigate.)
