[Suggestion] - Little improvements

Hi guys,

Thanks for R2P, it's really a nice app we got here !

What would be lovely :

- Main window can "anchor" to the limit of the screen (see how winamp does that ? well that's the idea)
- Have the program remember its last main window position
- Possiblity to have only a system tray icon (I just don't like having programs in both systray and taskbar - personal convenience)

That's it for now, will come back later with other ideas.

[Edit]

- Typo : "Unavailable" not spelled right.

We are already doing this, please try it out and let me know if it is not working for you?

We already have an option to set only use the system tray.  It is just turned off by default.

I understand what you mean, like a dock on the side of the screen.  I will list it for a potential future update.

Hi,

Thanks for your previous reply, it's really nice to be in touch directly with someone who actually cares :-)

Anyway, I don't think we are talking about the same thing, well technically we are but not in the same way.

Right now I didn't check the box you mentioned. So the icon is correctly positionned (sp ?) in the systray. But when the program is opened (ie : double click on the systray icon), it then goes in both the systray and the taskbar. Would it be possible to see it only in the systray at all time ? For example, Xfire & Winamp are both getting this option, and I have to say that I just love it. But hey, it's just me ;)

Also, I confirm that the main window goes back to the middle of the screen every time I launch the program. Maybe it's because of Win7 ?

I am running Windows 7 as well and it remembers for me.  Do you have anything special done to your Windows 7?  Did your turn off UAC perhaps?

Ah, so you want a "Show Only in System Tray" checkbox.  Got it.  Noted for future release.

Hello again,

I sure did disable the horrible UAC thingie as it was kind of pissing me off asking stupid things :)

Just so you know (yes I am repeating myself eheh) Skype or Xfire have both no trouble remembering the last position. Maybe they use another way than R2P ?

And yes, a systray only button would be a must, but then again, I don't know how badly this option is wanted by others, so don't make it a top priority ;) I'll manage without it.

[Edit]

Tried the "run as admin" possibility when launching R2P, still doesn't remember last position. Kinda lost me there.

OK

I'm Belxanthian and I'm the main developer for Ready to Play so I hope that means your in good hands ;)

Ready to Play uses "mostly" the registry to store its data.  The key that stores the window position is

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Ready to Play\MainWindowPosition

If you could please use regedit and delete that field then run Ready to Play and see if it will now remember your position.  If it doesnt we will have to dig into whats special about your system to find the problem.

Good Luck

Hi there,

So I now understand what where the Belxtest (or something like that) appearing in the friends list ;)

Delete the key you mentioned and then I got this at first start :

Exit the program, launch it again...this time it works, I have the main window. Position it where I want it to be (top right of the screen), then exiting the programe (left click in systray, exit)...and it is still in the middle of the screen :-(

Here's the registry key value : "540;215;360;440"

From what I can read, the value should be more like 1080;0 for the 1st 2 digits ? So it seems that it's not registering.

Then we have the problem of the LastFullWindowHeight key, which stays at 440 even though I try to set it to nearly 700 every time.

Trying to modify those values by hand...will report back when it's done.

[Edit]

Nope, even changing those variables by hand didn't help. Still in the middle. It's weird. If you want I can set up Teamviewer so you can drop by and see directly what's going on ?

FidelCastro,

Please join #stardock in our IRC (let me know if you need instructions as to how to do that) and Belxanthian will work with you to do a TeamViewer session to work this out.  Thanks for the offer of assistence !
