WindowBlinds 7 Beta Update (6.80.060) Released

http://www.windowblinds.net

Today we are happy to announce an update to the WindowBlinds 7 Beta.  The WindowBlinds 7 beta is currently available for active subscribers to Object Desktop, and can be downloaded via Stardock’s Impulse.

New in this update:

  1. XP toolbar & animations settings are back in the UI. They are under Settings now
  2. On Vista the sidebar skin settings are back in the UI. Also under Settings.
  3. Explorer backgrounds tab has been added to the UI. This will show on XP, Vista AND Windows 7.
  4. New Textures tab added to the UI.
  5. Support for enlarged menus on Vista / 7
  6. Some additional skin sections added for Vista / 7 including new shadow sections.
  7. The fixes for the start button clipping on multiple monitor Win7 boxes are in this build.
  8. The old WB UI has a bigger button for the new UI and says Beta 2 rather than Beta 1.
  9. You can drag wallpapers to the large preview area and it will copy them into the wallpapers folder off WB skins as it used to in WB6. Note that its the large preview area and NOT the list itself.

Under XP there's no possibility with the new UI to save explorer backgrounds and it's not showing as well those who are existing and which can be accessed with the old UI (seems to me something's missing or bugging )

Bump

I'm not sure what you are trying to say.  Try in French and maybe we can translate.  Or better, post screenshots with arrows.  :)

Under XP specific settings the animations seem to be working but not the toolbaricons. It keeps reverting to default in the settings.

Any ideas?

I don't know what program makes .texture files?Photoshop makes .tga files, just gank the Targa.8BI from ur old Photoshop 7 install and throw it in a newer version of PS... in the file formats folder. Unfortunately, selfish though it may sound, the thought of people throwing random textures all over my skins makes me feel ill.

That file is already in my CS4 formats folder, but when I export as or save as a .tga, transparency is lost.

The issue with Windows 7 64 bit and the explorer backgrounds should be fixed for the next build.

RedneckDude: The version of that file supplied with CS4 does not handle TGA well.  A tool like paint.net will handle saving a TGA from a PNG, or you could use SkinStudio to save it as a TGA by using the Sub Frame Builder tool.  Simply make the frame count 1, pick load existing multipart image.  Select the PNG and then save the file as a tga.

yeah.

I had trouble with tga made with PSP8 - SKS kept saying it didn't undertand what it was

saved as a png, opened in paint.net, saved a tga = good to go

could someone please answer the question i posed in reply #8. It's not a huge deal but it is sort of odd.

I have installed Windowblinds7 and ONLY that version. Why does impulse say that I have WB6 installed also? It was this way before installing this update.

Thank you

It's just the way Impulse is reading the XML.  It will go away on release.

Thanks Neil and Bichur!!

Impulse has been updated with a new build . . go forth and apply backgrounds!

No fix for toolbaricons not working? Anyone have any idea why they aren't working? And also just noticed some skins that are in the WindowBlinds folder are not showing up..even after rebuilding the list.

So far I have nothing but good things to say about the new interface. There is one word that keeps coming to mind, "Awesome" I love the Texture and explorer backgrounds. Bravo to the developers and designers and all those involved. 2010 looks to be hot year at Stardock. :CONGRAT:

Same problem as mentioned before for me :annoyed:

P.S: and in another way, when will be the time when Applications updates will be separated from skins downloading and installing in same time (it's uggly if you already get those skins personalized ...) and when will come back informations off what is exactly concerned by the coming update ?

still getting the occasional problem of some skins not loading with the new interface . I get the message "there appears to be no uis file are you sure this is a windowblinds skin" . well yes i am sure lol and these same skins load just fine in the old interface. Once they are loaded i can change back to the new look and the skins are there for me to use. Got me stumped why this would be happening. :)

Yes. Explorer BGs will work with XP. Will textures work as well? Can you overlap an Exp. BG with a texture?

Hi Giz! ^_^

Not sure what your exact problem is, but for me (on XP) applying icons through the new interface doesn't work either, had to switch to the old one for the change to actually apply. And on a related question: will the toolbar icons/animations previews come back in the new UI in a future release? Kinda crappy trying to pick a set with no preview.

Would also be nice for the skin preview to actually display according to what OS you're on (currently on XP but all the previews show Vista/7 style, regardless if the theme has a substyle for those or not). But I guess we XP people are becoming the minority now.

Hi Giz!

Hey Bebi!!!! :bebi: |-)

Yeah....No toolbaricons are working on XP with this latest build. And not sure if all are doing this but so far everything I've clicked on was showing the XP version of the skin. And yeah...I think we XP users are behind the flaws....uh....times.  XD

Is there going to be an option to change the skin & textures folder this time around? I don't want the skin using up my main HDD, what then to install on a larger 2nd HDD.

Oh well...since there hasn't been any input regarding the toolbaricon problem I just rolled it back to WB6.4 and everything is working again. I hope they get this fixed some time soon,

No need to rollback Giz, just use the older interface and the changes will apply.
