Elemental Beta Gameplay

I recorded some gameplay of elemental. Maybe this can help those friends of yours who are still on the fence about the game :)

Also, for stardockians and developers, there's a few bugs in the videos (like of the world loading but just being the cloth and that's it)

That's all that's in the beta. Did you not read any of the multiple posts from Frogboy saying that it's cloth map only? He did make quite a few of them and made it very clear it'll be cloth map only for quite some time!

Watch that part of the video again. The channeler isn't there, the whole map is covered in fog of war. :P

Nice videos!

I was wondering though how you managed to have the "official" font in-game. When I play the beta I have this somewhat ugly generic arial type of font.

Thanks for any help on this subject! :)

Some versions of windows will auto-update the fonts, and others require a restart. Try rebooting your machine and see if the fonts show up then.

Yeah, it pains me to see screenshots with that generic 'Arial' throughout  :(

Hi BoogieBac, thanks for the quick reply and trying to help me!

Unfortunately rebooting did not help. :(

I am running the game under Windows XP Home Edition (German version) with all the service packs installed.

Do you have any other ideas on how to solve the issue? Also, I think that I am not the only person with this problem, I think someone in the beta forums complained about "choppy fonts" as well, and the provided screenshots looked more or less like my screen.

Barring the reboot you can copy the fonts from the font folder to Windows\Fonts to install them manually.

I haven't listen to your whole videos, but I should mention that you can actually select the number of opponents : just click (or double-click) on unselected nations will add them to the game.

Actually, I am not really a computer neophyte, so I should have figured this out by myself..

Anyways, thanks for your help - you guys rock!

I said in the video you could pick who they were and how many there were, I just went with the default :P

Wow, I'm really glad you posted this. I never realized that the fonts had never installed on my comp. I was getting the ugly arial text, and the text for the buildings (like Inns produce blah blah gold a turn) was not showing up at all. I just figured it hadn't been implemented yet.

Hey sir,

You can change quality when you research it in the Warfare tech.  I was able to improve quality up to Elite.

Yeah I played today and realized that. I'll add it in the video as an annotation.

You have to set impulse to display non-released software.

Thanks, but we definatly need to figure out why some systems aren't getting the fonts. Asking every user it manually install them is pretty amature hour.  ;)

Oh, and Thrawn!  Thanks for posting a 'Let's Play...' vid of Elemental....totally made my night yesterday!!! :)

I made a thread about it before I read the rest of the posts in this thread below the videos :)

Heh, I didn't even notice the difference in fonts, as apparently I have the same issue, though copying and pasting the fonts did work.

Hehe. I do plan on making more as more phases come out to show the progress of the beta, or just to show features I forgot. Glad to see it made you day. Feeling any better or are you still sick? I really regret not being able to do it with Sins of a Solar empire

EDIT: For people who don't have the fonts working, I did have to install Elemental twice due to a  C++ error on the first install. Maybe thats why my fonts worked and so many others didn't?

good call, I was thinking about recording some beta play myself, but you've done a bang up  job so I say you did it for me.  +1

Great Videos. I can't wait to get into the beta action. Now I just have to make sure I can afford the game before the end of September...

Well if you don't get into beta 1, you can preorder before early next year and get into beta 2.

I hope you manage to get the $50 by the end of the month though! :pout:

My first guess is the user profile lacking permissions for changes to the Windows/Fonts directory.  My second guess would be one or two types of anti-virus software view the new font files as a threat and have them removed.

^ Yeah prolly some permission problem.
