First Suicidal Victory

I finally finished my first Suicidal DA win tonight.  Played Altairians (Technologist, largest galaxy, all Abundant, Research Victory off, max players).  Used All Factories after about Turn 20 and paved over the 300% research bonus at that point.

Was not playing for score - I think it ended up around 100K.  Got an Alliance Victory, as I decided I could not be bothered to finish the others, though I could have.  About half would sign an Alliance, and I wiped out the other half.  Kept the Galaxy at war among themselves until the late middle game, built up enough to let the SCC avert casual war declarations, then siphoned off an invasion fleet as I got the rest of the war fleet prepped.  I constructor vultured a little, but not a lot, as that seems a bit of extra cheese, sticking to mining bases within or very near my borders that I regarded as gotten a bit cheesily by the AIs in the first place.

I may try another few strategies, but have my eye on Eagle Day and War in the East.

Congratulations LT.  I spent many hours playing Talonsoft's West Front and East Front (love them panthers).

Talonsoft!  And S&T before that!  Kampfgruppe was so advanced for its time, especially the campaign.  Memories, and I am getting old.  <sigh>

Thank you so much! :-)

One Q arose as I neared the victory.  One of my Alliance "partners" declared war on another AI also in the Alliance.

I immediately bribed the aggressor into a Peaces Treaty.  If I had not done that, would one or both AIs have left the Alliance?

Nope, they would both still be allied to you, but fighting each other.

Finally was able to finish a my first Suicidal, too; on DL 1.5 w Yor/ Gigantic/ all uncommon/ tech rate normal, with all AI opponents and 3 smaller races.

As it turned out later there were only 5 unhabited extra planets besides the ones in the homesystems, which caused not a a colony rush at all. Needless to say I didn´t manage to grasp one of these, so it became just like homesytem vs homesystem...

The sheer distance between the starsystems affected that game pretty much, the AI did seldomly manage to go succussfully to war, or conquering planets, he did more concentrate on researching and insanely raising military in excess.

Initially, I thought that it be a nice game for just that econ-bonus the AI had, this would enable me to suck even more money from them (through techtrade) unlike my previous games (where the AI can be virtually deployed of all his money...) I was wrong.

The AI did develop techs and military faster then anything imaginable, and I had to stop multiple times and read through tips'n'tactics of my KzintiComrades just to be able to survive, hiding defensively under the SCC until my diplo was, at least, a bit developed....

However, after I got Esp Level high I could get a look on my opponents homeplanets, and there the whole scenario became unfolded:

All AI had bonus-tiles at their hands (I will skip the ones for food, influence or morale, as the AI didn´t use them at all); nevertheless look at that:

Thalan: Prod +100

Drath: Prod +100

Toria: Prod +200; Res +100

Korx: Prod +100: Res +400

Drengin: Prod +700

Humans: Res +800

Arcean: Res +700; Prod +800

Altarian: Res: +700; Prod +1000

And me got nothing...0.

Hell, there are total of 20-25 habitable planets w 6 Precursor tiles and alot of other stuff, too, how great are the chances for such a setup?

It really became ridiculuous, Arceans Hammer II (a small PQ4) had all tiles w bonuses, it was 150% better on Prod/ Res then their fully developed homeplanet.

Now, this is my guess when people accuse the AI of cheating in the suicidal level - well, he does not, he apparently just has more luck then the player... all of them AI´s lol

Wow!  What a very different game!  Nicely done.

I have not played DL.  I do not think DA even has 800% and 1000% bonus tiles.

One thing, though, is that some of the "old hands" have stated that the number of bonus tiles is based on (IIRC) galaxy size.  Thus, the fewer the inhabitable planets, the more each planet will have.  So, it was not so much that the AIs got lucky, as that you were very, very unlucky!

thx, if I´d known that then.... well, one learns it the hard way best, isn´t it?

the bonus-tiles are the same, I was simply counting them together as a better overview.

Nice work.  A warfighting suicidal is not something everyone can win.

Congrats on your first suicidal victory Maiden6Out6Of6Hell! :congrat:

I've played a few hundred games, and I've had bonus tile distributiion of all sorts and combinations.  It does seem truly random to me.

Good job. I am just a small time player. I can barely get past normal, so I probably suck at suicidal.
