Patch Notes Pre Patch Day

Patch Notes Pre Patch Day

I think most RTS games I have played do this. Yet we don't get any information about what specific balance changes are being made. I mean, right down to the numbers. Instead, we're just patched without any real input. Think we could change this around? Proposed specific patch notes, discussion and then patching?

Quoting Obscenitor,
most DGs are pretty well balanced against each other

Agreed.

You are mostly right, but still there's a question: can you win a fight w/o HP stacking vs HP stacked opponent?

Yes artifacts (Ashkandor) provide poweful effects that can overwhelm HP stacking, but how many games comr to that stage and are still undecided? Of 215 games played i had 1(!) such a game (we lost, but that was really cool!)

Yes this game is not all about DG fights, it has a great strategical aspect about map control, creeps, citadel upgrades, which makes this game much more interesting to play, but if we are saying about balance, there still is a pack of useless items and HP items domination.

I don't say, that makes the game a bad one, i say a bit of rebalancing of HP vs damage/utility items will make it better.

And since there is always going to be a least one troll on most any forum/thread, that pretty much gives trolls/flamers a lot of power, and dooms the "good guys" if you ask me.

Welcome to the internet.

Well as you may have noticed, I'm posting again on the Demigod forums.  The decision internally is that we're simply going to zap trolls in their tracks. No warnings. Just posting priviledges taken away.

As someone else pointed out, Demigod is a different type of game and it has a different demographic than say Sins of a Solar Empire.  People who can't control themselves have plenty of other sites they can go to spew venom but here we're going to take a pretty hard line on discussion.

Most people haven't sat down and looked at why most game communities die off in the long run. I mean, really look at it.

That Demigod is going to continue to get updates for a very very long time will help. But also what will help is being able to communicate to every Demigod player out there. We've been, like others, waiting for the v1.2 builds to start coming out before really gearing things back up.

I consider the Replays a pretty big deal.  But I also consider having more items (favor items and regular items) added to be as big of a deal as the new Demigods (others may disagree but if you want to keep the game fresh, we need to keep adding more items).

I also think that a lot more needs to be done over time to make it easy for people to get together and play the game easily. That's where things like Ready to Play are pretty important and will expand.

But none of this is going to happen on some tight time schedule. I see people claiming I'm "lying" simply because an ETA I received has come and gone.  I can't speak for GPG but on Stardock's internal support schedule, we have Demigod prioritized until well into 2012 and that's with actual bonafide "improvements" that will materially affect the game.

That's a much better way of handling things.

As for keeping things fresh, items with no animations cannot be THAT hard to implement?

I appreciate the update.  Here's hoping no show stopper bugs pop up and we get a new version this week!

Yay go Stardock! I send love <3 <3 <3

I do agree with QoT. She is underpowered past like level 8 and I would say past level 12 Torch Bearer becomes quite weak as his health always seems low even with BoTF

Im glad Skirmish is being taken out and glad to hear progress is being made with the update.

Back to the topic however. Im not really bothered about Patch notes. I would only really get round to reading it after the patch arrives to be honest

@Frogboy: Very nice stuff.

Also please keep an eye on http://forums.demigodthegame.com/359551/page/2/#replies. Sometimes we even find code locations, this should help GPG alot. I've been messing with lua a bit. The people at http://trac.dgmod.com:8080/ are doing an awesome job aswell.

Check it out.

Define HP stacking, because I constantly beat 6k+ hp players with 4k HP myself when I play rook. I focus on mana early game and rely on my towers to take damage for me.

I've beaten HP stackers indirectly by buying upgrades instead of buffing my own HP up to their levels, and I've beaten them by picking up an orb of defiance instead of pure HP and blocking key attacks/debuffs with it.

Ashkandor isn't the only artifact btw. Mageslayer is a popular staple and there's plenty of other effective ones which I'd take over pure HP.

Gloves in general are too weak, there's no doubt about that, but pure HP is not the only course to victory in this game.

As you guys add new items I think you should look to the artifacts for inspiration, btw. Virtually every single item at the artifact shop is good and there's a ton of variety there. It may not be the most creative approach, but mini versions of those items could be immensely popular.

the only really decent gloves are the Wyrmskin gauntlets and slayer's wraps.

And HP stacking is only really good with sedna, and UB with ooze.

Get rid of trolls.

I did apreciate frogboy last post, and agree about the new items thing.

Thanks. Hoping journal comments can come back one day, because being not allowed to comment there doesn't help since we can create a new topic around.

Ps.: What is IMO? Google doesn't want to teach me. (i'm not from EUA, etC)

It usually means "in my opinion."  Sometimes you'll see IMHO, which means "in my humble opinion."

Go to urbandictionary.com if you're ever confused on intarweb slang btw.

Thank you, the_hunger.

Obscenitor, you're right. I Didn't remember about urbandictionary. Very usefull.

Frogboy, if the problem is the people on forum having too many opinions that lead nowhere and sometimes beeing trolls just bring foward options and create polls this way u'll get rid of trolls get updates the majority of people agrees with and u'll will keep the community feeling like they are participating for exemple ending skirmish its sutch a big dicision it should be voted by players i dont think u should ignore people and just launch updates but thats just my opinion after all the updates are for us

Demigod is also a very high prioriy at GPG. I am constantely getting pulled off SC2 to work on the Demigod patch.

Sorian - thanks so much for taking an active part over here on the SD DG boards!  It means alot to many of us to get extra details and hearing that GPG is working hard on this and that goes a long way.  Thanks for all your hard work and congrats again on getting the job with GPG!

A stance that personally I totally agree with, just be prepared for lots of moaning of the little shits supporters.

Even that Chasnaska or whatever the f... he was called had people going on about how his posts were funny, I mean seriously?

Thanks Frogboy and Sorian for replying, we really appreciate that. Nice to see that you also think that QoT could use a little buff (hint hint). :)
