what are the best planet killers?

Whats the most effective way to siege a planet?  Or whats the quickest way for comparable cost.  How do the different Cap ship siege abilities compare? 

Lets say 4 Siege frigates are equivalent to a Capital ship in slot cost (56), and dollar cost.  How do they compare to some of the Cap ship siege abilities?  According to the published stats, both the TEC & Advent siege frigates do 20 "damage" to planet.  The Vasari one does 23.  Various Cap ships are listed as doing around 40+ "damage", so about double the frigates (Marza=56.5 down to Skirantra=35).  But this "damage" doesn't properly compute as dps, or damage per second.   If so, one siege frigate would be able to take down a 1000 health asteroid in 50 seconds, and we all know that it takes way longer than that!  So what does that damage mean?

I know that a level 6 Revlation can kill ANY planet, big or small, with 3 shots of -40% in 7.25 minutes.  Kind of a long time to kill a measly 1,000 health asteroid, but not bad against a fully upgraded 6000 health homeworld.
A level 6 'Egg' can kill a 1000 health Asteroid with 1 shot, or in 35 seconds!  (And you get income/resources!)
That same 'Egg' can kill a homeworld with 4.44 shots of -1350 health, so either ~9 or ~12 minutes (3 min. cooldown).
A level 5 Marza (lvl 3 Raze Planet) can kill a homeworld in about 10.37 minutes (6000/480 with 50 sec cooldowns).
That same Marza can kill a 1000 health Asteroid with 2.083 shots, with 1 cooldown, so 50+ seconds, meaning about a minute or so (1000/480 X 50 sec)!

How long would it take a Vulkoras with its siege ability?  And how long would it take the comparable 4 siege frigates?

435 seconds - 6000 damage dealt

Thanks Darvin.  435 sec = 7.25 minutes, so interestingly, same as Revelation's Provoke Hysteria. 

I finally broke down and did some testing of my own.  Unfortunately the results don't always jibe, or correspond with other conclusions.  For example, I also tested several levels on a 6000 health HW.  Including a lvl 3 Vulkoras (2 levels of seige, and 1 assault spec) and it only took ~6.5 minutes.  Not sure why the differences? Other than: possibly Assault Specialization not used in your test, or possibly the Vulkoras was attacking other structures in between seige deployments, or possibly antimatter differences.  I turned off auto attack and forced the Cap ships to also attack the planet, in addition to their sieging abilities.  The following are my results with fastest settings:

Lvl 1 Vulkoras (1 seige, and 0 assault spec)  :  9'
Lvl 3 Vulkoras (2 seige, and 1 assault spec)  :  6' 35" - 7' 15"
Lvl 5      "        3                 2                     :  6' 00"
Lvl 6      "        3                 3                     :  5' 35"

Lvl 1 Marza    (1 raze, and 0 incend. shells)  :  12'
Lvl 3 Marza    (2 raze, and 1 incend. shells)  :  8'
Lvl 5    "         3                2                        : 5' 30"

Going back to calculating potential results I noted that a "salvo" of damage apparently occurs every 10 seconds, so these figures can be converted to a DPS.  The following is a summary of base siege damage for all Cap ships (note, all 3 colony Caps do the same 4.0 DPS seige damage):

Siege frigates were updated after the original discussion (1.18 changelog ), so that they now do more damage, cost less in fleet supply (12 now, vs 14), and have more health (HP).  But there are differences between vanilla Sins and Entrenchment or Diplomacy, ie:

TEC Krosov Siege Frigate:

  • Planet bombing damage increased from 21 to 25. (Original Sins Only)
  • Planet bombing damage increased from 21 to 31. (Entrenchment Only)

Advent Purge Vessel:

  • Planet bombing damage increased from 21 to 25. (Original Sins)
  • Planet bombing damage increased from 21 to 31. (Entrenchment Only)

Vasari Karrastras Destructor:

  • Planet bombing damage increased from 23 to 27. (Original Sins)
  • Planet bombing damage increased from 23 to 33. (Entrenchment Only)

That would be my bet.  My Vulk started to run into antimatter issues near the end.  If you extrapolate my figure from the 4500 damage time (before antimatter became an issue), you get 6:40, which is roughly the same as your figures.

No; guidance does not affect ultimates, nor can it target self.
