Bootskin Vista and CHKDSK-Not compatible?

Last night I decided to run chkdsk after an online game download went bad and crashed. I uninstalled the game, set up chkdsk and rebooted. Well, it hangs indefinately at the Bootskin. It didn't run chkdsk, won't finish loading. Right now I have an $1800.00 door stop! Any suggestions on what to do before I'm forced to call Tech Support?

BTW, I ran the PSA, it said no errors. Tried to run the recovery disk, but it still just stays at the boot and doesn't start the program.  Help! :waaaa:

can you boot into safe mode, reset bootskin back to default, reboot

When I accidentally interrupted a chkdsk on my HP,I had the same thing happen.Nothing but bootscreen. :'( Try this:

Unplug your computer.

Remove the cover.

Remove the cmos battery for ten minutes.

Reinsert the battery.

Start your computer and set the system clock in  bios setup.

Save your settings, exit, and start Windows.

OK, here's what happened:  I called Dell tech support and he told me to do the battery thing The Wiz suggested, BUT he didn't tell me to leave it out for ten minutes, it was out then back in, so it didn't help. Then he had me go into safe mode and told me to go to "repair my computer", but guess what" I didn't HAVE a command "repair my computer"!? So I just went to last known good configeration and that did it. But now I'm afraid to use Bootskin, because I do run chkdsk on a fairly regular basis. Did Bootskin have anything to do with this problem?

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the help.  |-)

I'm happy to hear you got it worked out. It may be a slight bother but you may want to reapply the default bootscreen before running chkdsk in the future.(Just in case) An email to Stardock support describing the problem and a link to this thread may be a good idea as well.
