It seems like daily I'm reading about soldiers and people being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in large numbers. I've come to grips that as long as people are alive, there will always be kiling. No amount of 5.11 gear or preparation on anyone's part will stop a man's desire to kill.
What happens is that people become convinced that they have the most honorable ideals and they are willing to fight for those, even to the death. Reporters with their zoom lenses and crumpler camera bags snap photos of this daily. Men and woman who have gone to their death for a cause that they saw as honorbale.
This holds true for the marines who fight on a daily basis in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. They believe in freedom and will fight for it. Sometimes, whoever believes more strongly will be the ones who take the most drastic measures. This is the case all of the time, but usually the causes that are the most just will take drastic measures that look differently than committing suicide, it may mean praying with fervor or protecting people with the same diligence. Things like these are often more difficult than walking into a crowd and detinating yourself. That often seems like the easy way.
