First thing you're going to mod?

Modders, knowing what we know now...what is the first thing you are thinking about modding? It could be an item, creature, race, random event, story, or even a complete overhaul. I'm not a modder myself but I'm curious to know what modders are thinking about.

its a trick question!

in a way I have already started moding with some 3D models (see related thread).  However, I won't be able to add said 3D models until the 3D part of Elemental comes out.that may not be this year.

So chances are the 1st thing I'm going to mod is either some 2D images, or character/creature, provided the related editors are available right away.   If not... then I'll have no choice but to just edit whatever they give us.  (I vaguely recall the map editor being promised to us in one of the dev journals)

I hope to create a story game. Basically it will be more like a SRPG, since I plan to have the player faction city-less and behave more like a wandering mercenary army. So survival will be a challenge when troops can't be easily replaced! .

So I think the main stuff I will be fiddling with is the event/story/quest stuff, to provide a cohesive adventure. Maybe something to do with diplomacy since the mercs have to live off other kingdoms, of course depends how it works out.

I think one of the first thing to be modded will be races. Elves, dwarves, undeads... those kind of racec everyone expects in a fantasy game. And I also think that a group of pepople will join forces to re-create MoM usin elemental engine.

I for one am going to start experimenting with different game mechanics: regenerating essence, terrein-based mana, other espionage systems, and the like. Se what works and what sdoesn't, and what needs to be done to make it work.

The interface.

As soon as the tools are available I'm going to make a mod in which the player controls a colony of slime monsters defending a dungeon against invading adventurers...

I'm wondering if it will be remotely possible to mod a roguelike or some kind of tactical RPG in the game.

I'll probably begin by modding all of MoM's units into the game, most likely requiring mods to the game's combat calculations to support them.

Whatever is easiest to do first then work my way up from there.

Towards a Roguelike of sorts.  It definitely has to be possible, I can feel it.  I mean, just think of the Fall from Heaven 2 stuff that dovetailed into 133rd K.R.A.G!  As something of a warmup, I plan to learn/muck about something similar though in C++ and hard to say how things will shake down between it versus capabilities on Elemental.

Good times ahead though, of that I'm positive.

Ohhh... Now that would be nice... I can see it already, Angband / Moria and the like in this beautifull engine... Anyone interested in a 100 level random dungeon with Morgoth at the bottom? Better go and sharpen your weapons

I too think people will mod units to create new races and then try and re-create MoM.

Actually, I was hoping I could use Elemental to recreate one of my favourite table top game (Descent) for my own use. I guess that there are other tools more suited for this, but Elemental seems to provide much of what is needed for this task.
I don't know if the Python API will grant enough freedom for that and I suspect it might need to work very hard against the built-in combat but, well, we just don't know :)

Well, I used to play around in Angband for a bit, even had my own variant for a time, so now the idea has been set, it's certainly something to look into... One of the hardest parts would probably be to get models for all those monsters.

Well as I understand, it won't be easy to add new creature models, but hopefully some modders will be able to create decent models.

Either way, it would be awesome if someone would create a Middle Earth/LotR mod. :)

That's a given :)

I also think a Wheel of Time mod would be awesome.

Man, these are some pretty sweet ideas I'm hearing so far. It's probably bad to say this but I'm starting to get more pumped about the mods than I am about the canon game. LOTR...Wheel of Time...MOM....cliche fantasy races...not to sure about gnome mounted pigs though...ah what the hell...that would be cool to see too ^_^

THREAD NECRO!

I decided the first thing I'm going to do will be very simple.
A lottery, just to see if I can do it- then I will move on to the slime game.

Races....once I get those down good I can start in earnest on my Dragonlance Mod. The War of the Lance. I can't wait. Does anyone else know the Map of Krynn? I'm going to replicate it exactly. :)

I've always wanted to recreate a space colony game a la Deadlock II. Lacking skills, I think I'll start by reskinning the world to look like Mars and work my way up from there.

I'm hoping for an Erfworld Mod, (though I can't see putting forth that much effort all by myself).

Wow...sounds impressive, but can you create 3D models for units?
