No way the AI can build that fast

I just started a brand new game, after falling way behind in colonies on my last. The main culprit being the Krynn. I've built nothing but Factories in my capital, built nothing but Colony ships there with the exception of a single Scout ship. Any gold I get from anomalies gets used for rushing Colony ships. My other first colony builds only Constructors which so far it's only been able to build one of. Yet when I got Universal Translator and checked the stats, the Krynn once again had twice as many colonies as I did, 13 to my 6. There's no way in hell he could have completed that many colony ships in that time. And not only was he way ahead in colonies but also in techs. With that many colonies his economy should have tanked, not prospered. I was playing on Challenging which is supposed to make my economy equal to the AI but it's glaringly obvious they're getting bonuses. After this experience, I'm deeply disappointed in forking over the money to get the Ultimate collection. I don't want to play a game that's rigged so I'm guarenteed to lose.

It might be, but it might not be, at the moment it only qualifies as your opinion until stardock says otherwise.

Well since they seemed to agree with me when I sent them a bug report, then yes, I guess it is actually a bug. Unfortunately they couldn't reproduce the issue with the save game I sent them so they couldn't figure it out. I've seen someone else posting about the same problem so it seems that you are correct in suggesting that the taunting is actually the bug, and not the contact conditions. They're not supposed to do that until they have official contact.

In which case, it strikes me as an extremely minor bug.  Now, if they taunted you prematurely and then when you later officially contacted them and they STILL didn't show up in diplomacy screens or the UP, it'd be a big deal.

Frankly, I'm still more concerned with mechanical balance in game stats.  They just don't work right.  They might function adequately, but they're still not correct.  Reminds me of a Rube Goldberg machine...only clunkier.  Especially with the way various strategies have been described with regard to much higher difficulties.  They don't strike me as particularly noteworthy in structure or execution.  Then again, I never play to win anyway.  If I'm going to do that much, I want a bloody real prize at the end, and a bloody good one too, or it's not worth the effort.  So, I just play to try out incredibly odd things.

I would like to invite you to join one of the Metaverse Empires, where we offer a wealth of information on all aspects of strategy.

No thanks, right now I don't even want to play the game. I just tried a new one, building nothing but Factories and Colony Ships and I still couldn't keep up to the Thalans. That's not my idea of strategy, that's just pursuing a narrow minded path and hoping you get lucky with the planets you colonize. I feel that I've just wasted $50 on this stupid game. I'll stick to the other Civilization if I want a 4E game. GalCiv could learn from that game frankly. The approach used here is exactly the same as the one in Civ 3, just a mad early REX, and most players hated it.

And too late for the 2.03 advice. I've been encountering a few problems as well, so maybe that's the cause. In some games races that I meet won't show up in my Foreign Affairs screen. The only way I can contact them is if they approach me. They don't even show up in the Universal Planets meetings. Also, when I first started playing, I was able to create my own ship style but that's no longer working for some reason. And there's been a couple of minor graphics glitches as well, like my entire interface flashing.

I know what you are talking about, unless its a specialized planet or planetary invasion it is not a concern. Yes you only have one chance to communicate. If you don't on that screen, you can't talk to them. If this is a bug I don't want them to get rid of it. Try instead of resetting the game, keep playing the game. My favorite is when I'm in the corner, and the thalans are in the other corner. The races around you and you are on par with techs, but the thalans are really advanced. Trade with them now. You wont be able to for some time. Get all their techs. What the game meant for bragging can make you stronger than your neighbors.

About the krynn, they have a base moral of 50%. Is their poloctical populists, that adds 10%. Is their morale maxed out in their abilities. This is why they are so hard to beat. racial morale abilities of 50% stop maximising cpu try maximizing your morale and pick populists or federalists as your political party. It gets you more abilities to customize. Their just not as good. I like super adapter, hive, and populists. My suggestions is creativity, morale, economics, and research. creativity will increase your research. Trade aggresively especially with the thalans, and coloninize as many planets as possible. Tough not challenging equalizes everything

First of all I think your on advanced algorithms if the krynn AI is powerful, The krynn rocked in dark avatar, but sucked in twilight of the arnor. This is what I'm saying they come up with a good idea to play a AI, but they keep taking a good race, and dummying him down. I would like them to stop doing that. I like what they did to the thalans, iconians, and torians, but I would like them to have left the dread arcens, terrans, and torians alone. The iconians should've left the challenging from the dread, while using the espionage. This is what they didn't keep for dark avatar. In twilight they raised the difficulty on the torians, thalans, iconians, and yor, but lowered the krynn, altarians, drengin, korath, and drath. I would like to mention I didn't like how they took the espionage capability from the krynn and iconians. Also the krynn lost their influence capability. I would like to see them to stop this. Keep improving, but don't lower other races.

The reason the krynn would be so powerful. Is a really high morale bonus. The torians is because of the super breeder. Every race has different abilities, and unlike avatar they know how to use them.

The next thing, it would be very annoying if every time I seen a specific thing on the game I reset the game. This would be a self induced problem though. I would recommend not doing that. This reminds me of when in civilization 3, you could trade for contact with a person. Before the invention of the computer this would be impossible, especially in 3000 BC. There's one bug from civilization I would like to bring up. I actually missed this in civilization 4. Another bug I would like to bring up is not allowing you to go into other country borders. In civilization 3 you were allowed to threaten which this is realistic. In civilization 4 you couldn't even move in without permission or war. If one of you guys were right, and this were a bug. All you guys thought this bug was doing was letting you know what the AI was researching, first if the AI didn't let you know what it was researching it would still research without you knowing, second there is a better point you can actually contact the race you have not met only from the initial contact screen. The next screen is a regular diplomacy, because you haven't met this guy there is no other way to contact him till you actually meet him. If this person is on the other side of the galaxy, and has things your neighbors don't have. You can become really powerful. I hope they don't get rid of this bug, but stop resetting the game when you come across this bug.

I don't see why the original poster would build nothing but factories.  I usually play "crippling" level and factories aren't a big factor in my game until I reach the end.  But then I purchase most of my ships from other races and upgrade them and I focus on my technological advantage.  The only thing a factory or 2 is good for is building your other buildings that give you other advantages.
