August 2009 - The Monthly Demigod Community Question Thread

Cut off date 8/31/2009

DG community,

I recently made a request  to have a publishers chat session (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/361991/#2345903).  It doesn't look like that will happen, but Frogboy suggested that we create a monthly question post and agreed to write a dev journal answering the questions as well as possible.  That said, here is our 1st monthly demigod question post.  I'll be sorting through the questions asked this time around and compiling the final list for Frogboy.  Another forum member(Impossible) suggested we use a cut off date of 8/31/2009 to wrap up questions.  Then, Frogboy could write his dev journal response when he has time.  Sounds like a plan to me.  Here are some basic guidelines for any questions you'd like to submit (also provided by Impossible):

1.  Please state your question in the form of a question.
2.  Only constructive questions will be considered.
3.  Do not ask questions previously answered.
4.  Detailed, specific questions will be considered over generic questions. ("Has there been any thought to buffing QoT's minions?" would be considered over "Why is QoT underpowered?")

As questions are added, I'll begin compiling a list.  Thanks everyone!

I suggest to post your questions in a list like ZehDon does. Will be much easier for pacov to read then :)

Has there been any progress on the ping-spiking issue detailed here? A small portion of the player base (including myself) have put Demigod on hold, as we cannot play games with more than X (where x is a number between 4 and 8, with the median being 4) players in them, despite solid connections. Many of us have tested the game with worse connections in another area and the same ISP, and had no trouble running the game.

Same problems.  Some feedback on this would be nice.

Well, we've had feedback. It's just that so far the feedback's been "We really don't know either." I'm just hoping it's changed :P

Sort of a long rambly question, but here goes:

It seems that low upload bandwidth users cause the majority of the lag issues.  These users do fine in 2v2, and sometimes 3v3, but fail horribly in 4v4 matchups.  Could proxy connections be used to split a packet multiple ways, so that the user only has to upload one set of information, which the proxy would then duplicate to all of the players in the game?

Is there a chance that the concept of Generals and Assassins will be removed to make way for a more logical and non-discrimative class of "Demigod"?

What was the design rational behind not rewarding killing demigod owned minions?

Is SD/GPG willing to "officalize" and distribute community made maps, mods, items, demigods, and the like if they gain popularity?

Some of the Demigod journals mentioned that Stardock and GPG signed a 1-year agreement saying that GPG would provide 1 year of support for Demigod, including patches and new content. (At least, how I read it).

Based on some of your (Frogboy) comments, you had a lot of frustrating go-between trying to get GPG to create new content and fulfill their agreement, while they were busy working on SupCom. There was a rather long period where no hot-fixes were being released and it SOUNDS like very little new feature implementation was being worked on (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, it sounds like they are hard at work with 1.2 and such, so things have gotten better (and hopefully improve significantly once SupCom is released). Is there any intention of extending the contract to include the period where Demigod's support was limited (in a time where it needed to NOT be limited).

Also, you (Frogboy) mentioned that periodic 20% off coupons would be given to active Demigod players as a way to bolster the online community. Do you know if those plans will go into effect anytime soon, or if I can expect a 20% off coupon at all? Are they also transferable (can I give my 20% coupon to a friend to let them buy Demigod? That's what I did with my last one).

1. When will pathing be fixed?

2. When will items be fixed and not just removed from game?

3. When will login issues be fixed?

4. When will demigods be fixed? (ie oak spins in circles, tb cant auto attack in fire mode)

5. When will you actually fix the game instead of putting out new content?

6. When will minion control interface be fixed? (ie better interface)

7. When will auto matching be fixed? ie pantheion, skrimish automatching?

8. When will game lobbys display proper pings? with a sim speed?

9. Whe will ranking system be fixed?

10. When will you actually do anything but add new content which adds more bugs?

END.

11. Why are so many Demigod players such dicks?

- How tall is Sedna?

- Do creeps feel pain?

- What's on the other side of the portals?

-If you could be any Demigod IRL who would you be? Keep in mind that you'd only be able to use words the Demigods use ingame. IIIIIII AM THE CRUUUUUUUCIBLE OF SALVATION, for example.

-While we're on Torch Bearer, when he says "Ice Ice Baby", is this meant to denote that he's a Vanilla Ice fan or is it just a coincidence?

- How does a swarm of bats flying past someone hurt them? How can a Erebus suck blood from Rook?

-When are you going to patch in a %fashionability rating? I don't take Saam El's Cloak for the movement speed bonus, I take it for the sexy blue trim. I WILL NOT PLAY TEH DEMIGOD ANYMORES UNTIL THIS IS FIXED QQQQQQQQ

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post the 1st list of questions yet.  I do have a compilation going and will post asap.  Keep the questions coming in.

That's a very, very good question.

Actually, low upload bandwidth isn't the problem. Proxies have been tested with this glitch, and do not solve the problem. Switching to another connection from another area, however, can sometimes fix the problem, even if its speed is lower (!!!) It's a difficult problem to figure out.

He also says "The weather outside is frightfull" which is from an old Xmas song. I found that to be hilarious.

Ah, right, questions:

- Stardock/GPG, will you be giving the existing demigods new funny replies? At the moment only TB and Erebus made me seriously chuckle. And of course oak with : This armor itches (LOL!!!)

- How much time do you spend reading the Ideas section and what Demigods/Maps did you find interesting there and would consider implementing?

I am very interested about knowing this aswell.

I am blown away by the way that SD employees are treating the fan base for this game. Here is a perfect example of a guy pointing out an error with the site only to be brushed off and have his thread locked.

"I checked the site and I think the number of players is faked. 7000 players online, 30 current games and 7 open games. Thats impossbile."

Frogboy- "than dont use it."

WTF? He was pointing out a perceived error not looking for a GTFO response.

Also to the SD employee that says if we dont like the game than go play another. Seriously is that how you guys treat the fan base who actually purchased your game despite the numerous reports of broken design and lack of support? Well Go ahead and keep treating paying customers like mushrooms and see how long you can keep your heads above the water.

Also it is really easy to tell someone to go play another game after you have already received the 50$ for the game.

Lol thats right it was my post

Since the game has been released, 100% of the support has been for fixing connection problems and bugs. No new content, no new DGs and so on. The only new thing was a random DG select function, which was bugged and for which had been made and extra patch to make it work. Imagine therw wouldnt have been connection problems, and lets say only half as much bugs, there wouldnt have been a need for any "support" till now.

The user would still have to transmit the data to the proxy server so it wouldn't solve anything.

The bottom line is that someone with a poor Internet connection is going to have problems playing this game on the Internet with lots of people.

Reading through this thread really does make clear why Brad stopped participating in these forums.

If you don't like Demigod or think it is "broken" then don't play it.  As far as we are concerned, Demigod is a good game that works well. It isn't perfect but no game is and Gas Powered Games continues to work to make it better and Stardock too has worked very hard to make the game better as well.

Users who think that their purchase of a video game entitles them to be abusive, rude, and obnoxious on the forums are not welcome in our community.

I am locking this thread.
