DeskScapes 3 Beta 1 Bug reports

A DeskScapes beta has been released.  This build has a new user interface, effects that can be applied to dreams, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  Sadly, the effects are Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.

Double-clicking a dream no longer loads a dream.  You will need to use the "Apply changes" button.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

You may want to ensure you have the latest DirectX9 runtimes (even on Win7) by installing the following : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

There is an issue on some machines with some dreams where the UI may crash out when it builds the dream list.  There will be an update on Friday morning to resolve this.

i can't use it. the configuration tool crashes as soon as it opens. i've rebooted and tried again but have the same undesired result. on a side note, i really like the ui you are incorporating into wb and deskscapes.

What OS are you on?

If Windows 7, can you try downloading the latest DX9 end user runtimes and see if that helps.

Can we install it as an update over the previous version or requires a fresh install?

Also, its not showing up as an update in Impulse ?

Is there a file called dreamcontrol32.dll in your deskscapes folder (off program files)

Also does it crash instantly, or only when you try to preview a dream?

If the later, can you open the About Deskscapes dialog and paste the output here please.

You can update over 2.5.

It should show up as 2.9 beta in Impulse.

Very nice update >:( .

After telling me the PC needs a reboot for Deskcapes installation to be finished, I just can't reboot my PC anymore even in safe mode with an error "can't load d3dx9_40.dll" when programs trying to launch

What am i supposed to do at least to be able to uninstall Descapes to get read of that silly error ?

N.B: running french XP SP3

If you have the d3dx9_40.dll error you can install this : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en which will ensure you have the latest DirectX version.

We are also updating the build on OD to resolve this issue and making it link to older versions which the rest of Deskscapes uses.

EDIT: All of my dreams are verified to work with the latest version without a problem.

Neil, I really love the effects options...great job.

hello again, neil. that file you asked about is in the deskscapes folder. the app crashes instantly. there is less than 2 seconds after i try to open the control dialog before it crashes. the only dreams installed are the ones that come with deskscapes.  i've uninstalled the app, rebooted, and installed it again. same resullt.

Way to go CarGuy1.  Good of you to catch that and alert the folks.

I actually had it running for a while.  I didn't actually run any dreams, but I clicked on all the different dreams that came with it and watched the previews.  I went in to add my dream directories and it crashed right after.  I re-booted and it was crashing on start up.  I uninstalled, re-booted and re-installed - re-booted but it still crashes on start up.

PianoArt: On my Vista 32 machine it's under: C:\Users\Your User Name\Documents\Stardock\Dreams

(Substitute your user name here)

I took a bunch of dreams out of my dream folder and it's working now, except,

when I run a dream now, my icons in Fences all show on the desktop (not the fences, just the icons).

they disappear when I right click and the menu shows, but when I close the menu, the icons

all appear again!

I'm gonna boot into Win 7 and try it there!

(betas are SO much fun!)
