Elemental Twitter Updates Weeks 10-14

Weeks 10 through 14 of the twitter updates pertaining to Elemental (and it will probably continue into a couple more weeks, depending on how many are posted) For preveious weeks:

TeamElemental

  • Inbox flooded with bug reports...looks like you guys are realling playing the beta ;)
  • Beta 1 out!!! Go beat it up for us :)
  • Elemental beta looking good...fun to see the AI striking back when I tresspass in their territory. :)
  • Encoding the Intro video for Beta 1...very proud of what what we've come up with :) Can't wait 'till next week!
  • Day2 of PAX down...Editors, Art style, and Terrain spells impressing (who dosen't love to volcano their enemies into submission)?
  • Elemental previews at IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, and 1UP...but with 9 days 'till PAX we lack time to fully appreciate their awesomeness :(
  • Nice HRD Lighting comparison @ http://sd.stardock.com/elemental/hdrcomp.jpg ...moving away from 'cartoony' and closer to the look we want (left has hdr)
  • Just raised 20+ volcanos in the map editor...quite satisfying!
  • The crew is really busting out some awesome new technologies to polish up our PAX build...we'll have some awesome spells to show off!
  • Brad in CA with a fresh build of Elemental...look for coverage later this week, fresh with new screenshots (and perhaps some video)!

Is that still in the plan? Because that would be seriously cool.   The tile editor is our main tool around the office and will definatly be made available to all players

I love you<3 :inlove: <3

Look more closely.
I'd say the forts (not the surrounding buildings!) are exactely the same. But the again I was never really good at spot-the-difference. ;)

And you didn't give us enough updates, either! :D

Right now we dodge PR

for some reason this made me laugh out loud.   I imagine a very amusing early/mid-90s vector based game that involves running down hallways and dodging bullets.

It's late, I know, but I had no internet. Anyway, it has been updated.

Updated with week 13. Of course, this particular update has already been on the forums for a while (stop doing my job you losers!XO ) so it's not really news to anyone:'( As much as I would like to, I cannon spend 24/7 monitoring twitter.

Gee, I sure hope that this doesn't mean a Civ-4-style closed borders system...... that would be a LOAD of headaches..... oh well, there's always the beta......

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of being able to close your borders, but one of the things I hated the most about Civ was that they started out closed and you had to open them up one AI at a time.

Yeah because its entirely logical that other nations don't mind you walking armies through their territory. Civ4 offset this anyway by having the explorer and one of the ships able to travel through rival territory.

That is, of course, assuming that they know you're there....... it drove me NUTS that those borders worked through FOW........ and that they made war, trade, and exploration miserable..... you want to lock down your borders? Do what us mortals do and actually defend them!

Was there FOW within your own cultural border? For some reason I remember anything within your border was always visible... But I agree - borders were too binary in Civ IV. It should be possible to infringe on others' borders without it being an automatic declaration of war. Really, it should be up to the person whose territory is being trespassed to declare war (but in such a situation, for any gameplay/diplomatic mechanics, the trespasser should be considered the aggressor).

Uhm if you guys mean Fog Of War, then i think you are mistaken. I'm fairly sure that there's no FOW within your own cultura borders in Civ4.

Updated, although I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now that Beta 1 is out:P
