Hiya all you folk in WC Land and beyond ....a bit of Buzz Lightyear coming out in me there........just a quick question.......somebody on one of my screenshots brought up a thought, a Master Sniper.....now I know some of you think that we are not really useful, I disagree but then that is a different matter althogether...the question is, if someone as passionate as i am, and I know of a few others like me, quite a few, there is really no further rank than apprentice that we can go to, maybe after 10 years, we hit a lucky break and hit Master Apprentice....I don't know, I haven't been here long enough, but what is the furthest a sniper has gone.....I put a lot into my work, I'm just as passionate as the next bloke about this place, maybe even more so, cos it kinda saved my life in a way, but I would love the Honor of achieving Master Sniper in my lifetime, and yes all the bragging rights and prestige that goes with it......no I don't skin, but I have one in the works, but I would love to make it as a valuable, contributing member of the community as a Sniper......all I am asking, straight out, is this ever going to be attainable, if not it is not going to be earth shattering news, well a bit , but all I would like is a straight answer...is is possible...yes or No......thanks everyone, much love and much respect....the Thug

Once I saw that, I got the idea of creating a broad tutorial called Screenshot 101 that would sit with the rest of the community tutorials.

 

make sure you explain very clearly what a screenshot is (and isn't)

 

we still get some (not as many as used to) that download a screenshot, apparently set it as a wall, and can't figure out why the apps shown in the shot don't work when they click on them

This is a damn perfect text book example of why Screenshot 101 may be needed.

The very first step in the tutorial to be addressed before it's even asked is, "what exactly is a screenshot?"

for those who aren't familiar with the graphics programs they may have, you might also mention the Capture Docklet (if they have od free/pluss which will take the shot and drop it in a folder for them to upload when ready

sounds like your monitor is set to 'tan'

 

and why what I erased still prints out?

 

because making the text color match the background doesn't really make it erase and that's not a square trashcan/paper shredder on the toolbar, it's a printer

Good post Dale, and I'm satisfied with ID's response as well. :thumbsup: would be cool if it was a multi level system though......Rifleman, Marksman, Sniper, Master Sniper.

My 2 cents (but it may go against the grain)..

 

I don't think ID was referring to a separate class just for screen shooting...

If that were done, you'd have people clamoring, petitioning, bitching and moaning for a separate class for their 'field of expertise' - those that only do bootskins or only walls, or only individual icons, etc, etc etc, would want a separate class

I think we should have a separate class for forum whores like me and since I'm a Troll - I need a separate subclass

Being a Troll, I have a natural tendency to bait people - though I've worked hard at not baiting too much here, since I like this place and the people (and frogboy came close to threatening me with 'hash marking' some years back) - if we have separate classes then we need one for trolls and baiting... that way I can attain my own personal goal of "Master Baiter"

I get the feeling the separate class referred to is a class for those of us they feel who contribute and should be promoted, but not a 'skinners' per se

While I appreciate the promotions I have received, I was not comfortable with came with them - technically I could create crap for any gallery, submit it and it would bypass moderation - (if I every figure out how to make anything on my own I want it thoroughly moderated) - yet I only have one item in my gallery - and it really belongs to DaRkFuSsioOn (KkoNne) - I only collaborated - my promotions came from trying to help out in the forums and the old news groups

 

I guess what I'm trying to say is:

one the one hand - - there should be a separate ranking for us nonskinners and since skinners are the ones that create what we use, they are the only ones who should attain a rank of Master

on the other hand - - asking for a specific separate class for something such as 'screen shots' is kinda like skinners complaining about moderation/ratings/downloads - it's just asking on a different track
