What you don't understand is that it's not 'the Republican's nonsense' - the Republicans can't stop it, they don't have the votes. Certainly Republican politicians and ordinary members of the party oppose and have spoken out against the bill, but it's the independents and non-flaming-leftist Democrats who have puts the brakes on. The only reason this is in trouble is that the politicians read the local polling numbers and voting for this turkey is gonna be a problem for a lot of them come next election.
Perhaps, I do find it interesting that the bill is supposed to be a dem thing, when the republicans have been able to insert provisions in on a fairly consistant basis. Ultimately because of that, it becomes a congress thing.
