Silent Thunder

My book, Silent Thunder is now at the publishers, the contract is signed and the evil editor will begin to rip my work apart. I am happy and sad at the same time. Happy becaue after years of work my book was accepted for publication. Sad because it is no longer under my control. Do other authors have this feeling of loss and elation?

Paladin,

First Congrats on getting a beast like that done, and to the publisher.  have never sold somthing, so I cannot tell you what my feeling would be, but I imagine that it would be hard, especially if it is your frist book, an idea that you have worked on for years and years. So good luck and keep strong.

And here I am, still working on just one.  Or, well, sort of working on it.  I might finish it before I die.

That is how I felt after ten years of rejection letters. But I kept pluggng at it and kept sending out the letters till my publisher took a chance on me. Wow did I just write "my publisher"? it is so cool!!

A word of advice make sure the book is finished and you checked and double checked the spelling. Even the day I sent it off I found mistakes and half finished thoughts that I had to correct.

I'm not in the same league, as I have only ever published articles in magazines. But editors did remove entire paragraphs from my articles and it hurt.

I've yet to finish and search for a publisher for any of my writing, but I do have several friends and acquaintances who are published. They all have indeed felt this way. They likened it to a birth of a child, followed by them turning 18 seconds later.

I published tech manuals for the Marines but never a work of fiction. Published is published my friend. I expect them to take my 296 page book and make it 50 pages. lol

Do it! finish it and see what happens.

Yeah, I know that feeling. My youngest son moved his whole family to be with me for my surgery and seeing him act so adult like is shocking, seeing him treat his daughter the way I treated and trained him was rewarding.

One of my characters, Matthew Uno is an aspiring reporter of Japanese descent and American upbringing. He finds himself in Japan, in a society that despises foreigners. As he forges his way through Japanese culture, he will eventually find his niche and the woman of his dreams.

Another character, Imam Emilio Janjalani takes refuge in the Philippine Jungles for survival. While fighting for his peoples rights, he will face a crucial decision that will risk many lives.

At 1120 last night I received the typeset edited copy of my book from my publisher. I was more than surprised to see the ISBN number and the dedication on the book. They were a source of pride for me. I have 48 hours to proof read the manuscript and get it back to them for the very last changes. I am as giddy as I was when my children were born.  Okay back to work!

Did it in less than twenty hours. The manuscript is now complete and over. I feel a little sad now. The next step is the cover design. I hope they don't do ugly.

Well, the book is out and sales are not hot. The first three weeks I sold 10 copies. The frustrating part is that the next update on sales won't be until August. Man the publishing business is an act of sadomasochism.  You sweat blood to write a book and no one wants it because you are unknown.

You get a publisher and it takes as much as 18 months to produce your book.

Then when it is published they only tell you the sales data twice a year. You only get paid twice a year as well.

The only reason I got the sales for the first three weeks is because the book was released on Jan 5th and they close out the sales on Jan 31.

On a happy note: My third graddaughter was born March First at 2300 hours. Kayla looks mostly like her grandmother. A beautiful child.

Congratulations on the newest addition to your clan!  And I look forward to the other books.  Like I said, I love the stories.  You have no problems with carrying a story along and keeping the reader interested!  Please let us know when they are published.

Thank you for your kind words. Have you thought of posting it on Amazon. hint hint.

Just kidding I would never put that kind of pressure on someone I know.

I would be glad to.  I did not find it on Amazon (or I would have bought it there), but will check again.

Hey, somebody read my book and liked it! I mean someone I dont know! It makes me feel good. She wrote a review on amazon that was nice. This is from Joyce in Florida.

"I loved this book. The characters in this book are very believable. Knowing this was a real mission realy brought the story to life. As a lover of action movies, Mr. Tanner kept it real with action on every page. The story grabed my attion on the first page.I could not put it down untill it was done. I would like to see this made in to a movie. there is witty dialog and graffic violence through out.Just what every good action story needs."
